[F#m] Hi, it's Chris.
Today we're learning a complete beginner's version of Happy Birthday on the guitar.
All of the notes or numbers are played on the first E string at the bottom of your guitar and nothing else.
I'll be using a pick to pluck the strings,
however
it's just fine to use your thumb.
To produce the clearest sounding notes whilst pushing down on the frets in this example number two,
you want to press down on the right hand side of the fret box itself, not on the fret strip,
not to the left.
To [Em] accompany this lesson, there's a free handout which you can view online or download by clicking the link below.
I'll play each phrase at full and then slow speed so you can hear how it should sound.

[E] Again, it starts with two zeros.
Then fret twelve.
On your guitar, if you've got a classical guitar,
it will be the highest fret marker or the fret dot on the top.
That's fret number twelve.
You play this once,
you do number [G] nine, then number five,
then four to [F#m] fret number two.
And the final phrase of happy birthday goes [Gm] like this.
[A]
[G] [D]

It's [G] double ten,
