[B] Alright I'm going to try and show you how to do the intro and [G] verse [G#] for Cigarettes and Alcohol.
[G] This one, if you can manage to [F#m] get hold of one of the [B] early demos you can hear the chords
a little easier.
It's basically just an [E] E minor, [F#] an F sharp minor, and an [A] A.
You [F#]
never going to play the
top two [Bm] strings at all.
You're essentially [B] just doing a bass riff.
So it's really [B] just the top three strings and occasionally the fourth string when you're
doing the A [Bm] minor, sorry the A.
So the intro starts just by barring right across all the strings on the second fret
except for the bottom [E] E.
So you're effectively playing an E minor.
You're hitting [B] the top three strings really.
So [E] you're going to [Bm] hammer on to the fourth fret onto the A string.
Sometimes I use my four fingers, sometimes I use my pinky depending on what part of the
[D#m] song I'm in.
But I start off with the pinky, you can do whatever is easiest for you.
[Bm] So you're [C#] going to hammer on [E] twice and then you're going to [Bm]
upstroke on the A.
Then hammer back onto [F#] the A [E] string again.
Then you're [F#] going to do a little run up on the bottom E string from the third to the
[B] fourth fret using your third and fourth fingers.
[G#] [E] [B] Open, repeat three [E] times.
This one instead [G] of going [G#] third to the fourth you're just going to go third and [E] off.
You're going to lead into the F minor.
[F#] [C#] Just playing the top three strings.
You're going to take your finger off the top E, bottom [G] E and hammer back on [F#] again.
[E]
[F#] To the A, [A]
barring straight across, just playing the four strings.
Then leading into the [Bm] first verse you're just going to play an E, no hammering there.
Then just doing a [G] run down from the third [Bm] fret to the second fret and then sliding back
down to play the E [E] again.
[F#] [E]
[E]
[B] Sometimes [F#] leading into that too you can do a little run [D#] down like that.
[E]
[F#]
[E]
Don't worry too much about how you're [Bm] strumming.
You don't have to be too precise, you can just give it a whack, it sounds a lot better.
This might distort a fair bit in the video too so I'm sorry if it does.
So that's leading into the first verse.
So when the singing kicks in you're kind of [E] just again starting on the E
[F#] and no hammering
at this part so you're just [E] going.
Is it my imagination?
To F minor.
[F#] Finally found a something worth living for.
[E]
Then you do a run [G] down again.
I was looking for some action.
[C#] All I found [E] was cigarettes and alcohol.
Okay, in this part you're going to do two little runs up [G#] to the [G] third [G#] and fourth frets
on the E string.
[G]
[G#] So do it [E] twice, [G#]
up [A] to the A.
[F#] Then you're going to be hammering on on your A on the third fret on and off to the fourth
[B] fret and then back down to the E [Bm] fourth fret again.
[A] So [E] then a little run up again.
[G] [E]
[E] [A]
[Em] [G#] Okay, so on the A, I'll just say that [A] again.
Hammer [G#] on to the fourth, [A]
[F#] back down to the [Em] E.
[E]
And then up to the F sharp [Bm] minor again.
[F#] [E]
[C#m]
[G] Hammering on to the fourth and then down to the E again, up to the A and hammering on
to the fourth fret.
So a lot of [E] hammering on to the fourth.
[A] [E]
[E]
[G] [B]
Okay, I know I didn't explain it very well as usual.
I think you get the drift.
So yeah, it's a good fun song to play.
It does hurt your hand after a while.
But I hope that [B] gives you the general [Bm] idea.
