[G] G'day guys, [G#] I'm gonna do a tutorial for my favorite Smith song that a lot of people
want to know how to play this one.
This is just the way I play it.
Excuse the red face by the way.
Beach, no sunscreen.
But anyway back to the tutorial.
Smith's How Soon Is Now [F#] top song.
[G#] [G] Acoustically
not so easy [F#] [G#m] [D#] because you've got that you know Johnny Mars sort [G#] of reverb vibrato
sort of thing happening there [G] which you can kind of emulate I find this way.
[G#] So the [F#] intro and the chords you're gonna need is sort of like F sharp [A] [B] A B [Em]
but
these two strings, first two strings I think it sounds better if [G] you keep them
open [F#] so instead of playing a barre chord just put your first finger there across
all the notes just play the E because you're gonna hammer on and off that [Em] E
while you're still fretting those notes there [E] so you'll get this sort of effect.
[F#]
Okay sort
[B]
of mostly hitting the [F#] bass but you kind of let a bit of [Em] that those open
high [E] notes there just ring in every now and [F#] again.
Okay so [E] then all you're gonna
do is keep that exact same [F#] formation [E] slide it up to the fifth [A] for the A [Em] again
keeping [A] those open slide up [Em] another two [B]
nice ring and then [F#] back down again.
[Em] That's the sequence you need for the intro and [E] the verse so you'll get this.
[F#]
[A] [B]
[F#]
[A] [B]
Alright so that's all you need up to that point.
[Em]
[C#m] That's one sequence and it's
only one more sequence you need which is your chorus little bit and the rest of
the song is just those [G] these two bits.
So when you're up here [B] you're gonna come
back down [G] for [D] a A sus 4 which is you know like your D but just [Am] keeping that
D open.
[D] You shut your mouth.
Now the next [E] chord would [A] probably [G#] be an A but I want
to try [Em] and keep those two notes open so what I'm gonna do is come up here and
play
[A] one of these [Em] which I didn't know what it was I plugged it into one of
those little chord namer [N] sites.
