_ _ _ _ Hello, this is TJ with Piano Clubhouse.
We're going to show you today, Oh Give [D] Thanks Unto the Lord by Judith [Bb] McAllister.
_ It's in the key of B [Eb] flat or starts in the key of B flat.
[F] _ B flat has [Eb] two accidentals, B flat and E flat.
[C] The scale is B flat, C, D, E flat, F, [Bb] G, A, B flat.
_ _ _ _ _ [Eb] _ _ _
_ [D] _ _ [C] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [F] _ [Bb] _ _ _ _ Okay, let's break it down.
_ _ _ [Eb] _
Left hand, [D] B flat, D, [Eb] E flat, _ [F] F, [Bb] A, B flat.
Okay, let's just start out simple.
B flat, [B] [Eb] D, E flat, [F] F, [Bb] A, B flat.
Okay, one, [Eb] two, three, four, [Bbm] five, six. _ _
_ [D] _ [Eb] _ _ _ [Bb] Right hand, one chord, B flat, D and F is your B flat one chord.
I would [Fm] like to add my second note to my one chord.
So my one chord is B [Bb] flat, C, D and F.
_ Okay, so for [Bb] the [D] next note over [F] D, I'm going to do two, five, one, C, F, B flat, which
is the second note, the fifth note and the first note of the scale.
Thus calling it the two, five, one chord.
[G] I like to also hit this [C] third note if I can with your thumb.
Not [Cm] necessary, but [Bb] you can if you like.
_ Okay, O, give, _ [Eb] thanks.
The fourth note over E flat is going to be a B flat four chord.
The four chord is technically this right here, B flat, E flat and G, but with my four chords
I [D] like to add this third.
[Eb] _
So the four chord is B flat, D, E flat and G. _
_ _ When I showed it to you, I did it actually [Bb] inverted.
I played this B flat up top here.
[Eb] _ It's still a four chord, but it's just inverted.
So either way, whichever is most comfortable for you, here or here, as long as you're playing these notes. _
[Bb] O, one chord, give, two, five, one, thanks.
_ _ _ Next, [Bb] on two, over the F in the left hand is B flat, E flat, F and you can hit this
octave if you like.
But these three notes make up the chord.
_ _ On two, [F] the left hand goes [Am] to A, right hand goes to a five chord, which is an inverted
F major chord.
A [F] natural, C natural and F.
_ _ [Bb] The lower.
Then when we come back to B flat, we go back to the four chord.
I mean, I'm sorry, go back to the one chord that we learned, the very first chord.
Okay, let's put all that together.
O, one chord, give, [C] two, five, one, [Eb]
thanks, four chord, either here or here.
[Bb] On two, B flat, E flat, F and B flat [F] over F.
The, this is an inverted F major chord.
_ [Bb] Lord, back to the one chord. _
_ The passing chord I'm doing next, [D] _ _
before we go to [C] for he is good, this [D] passing chord is
D in the left hand, [Am] right hand is C, E, G flat, B flat. _ _ _
_ [Gm] For he, _ _ [G] I'm doing G in the left hand, right hand, I'm just doing a one chord, same one
chord I did before.
What I actually would prefer to do here [Gm] is [Bb] actually instead of playing one, three, five,
instead of this one chord, I'll drop this [Am] B flat here down to A.
[E] For this particular instance, it [Eb] makes it a little bit more, it makes it fit better.
[Bb] This one chord works fine, but you can also [A] do that.
This is what I prefer to [G] do here.
For he [F] is [E] good, _ good, the left hand walks down from [G] G, G, [E] F, E natural, right hand goes
to [C] a C major chord, _ C, E, G.
Whatever key we're in, [Ab] _
right now we're in B [E] flat, we're just going, when we go to this
E, which is the four and a half degree, if you're talking scale degrees, I'm going to
go to the second note of [Em] the scale, which is C, and just play the major chord of C.
_ [E] _
_ Don't worry about all that, I'll give you the notes.
[C] He _ _ _ _ _ _ [E] is good, and the left hand keeps walking down to the C, [C] D, C. _
[Bb] For he, _ we did this a couple of chords ago, B flat, E flat, F, B flat [F] over F, _ _ _ is, back
to the F [Am] inverted, F major chord, A, C, F, or [A] this is also the B flat, the B [Am] flat five
chord, over [Bb] A, back to the B flat.
That's the whole first section of the song.
Let's go through it again.
O, one chord, give, two, five, one over [Eb] D, thanks, four chord, inverted, or I do it here,
[Bb] on two, B flat, E flat, F, B flat over F, [F] the inverted F major chord [Am] over A, [Bb] Lord, _ back
to the one [E] chord, [D] here's a passing chord over [Am] D, _ [G] for he, [Gm] this is a one chord where I [G] drop
the B flat down a half step, just to add, give it a little more color, [Gm] but that would work too.
[F] He is, walk down the left hand down to E, he [E] is, good, C major chord, C, E, G over E,
left hand continues down to C, [C] _
_ [F] for he, [Bb] B flat, E flat, F, B flat over F, [F] is, this is the
B [Am] flat five chord, or inverted F chord, [F] A, C, F over A, [Bb] good, back to the one chord,
bringing it up to speed, O, [Eb] give thanks, [Bb] [F] unto the Lord, for he is [C] good, for he is [Bb] good,
one more time, O, give thanks, [C] [F] unto [Bb] the Lord, [F] for he is good, for he [Bb] is good, okay, everything
I just did, I showed you the exact chords.
_ [Db] In this song, the bass is having a lot of
fun in this song, [Eb] so once you kind of get comfortable with your right hand chords, you
can really start to move your left [Bb] hand a little bit more, watch, O, [C] O, give thanks,
unto [Bb] the Lord, right here, [D] _ _ you can walk up from the C, [F] and then you can go up to the
[B] _ _ _ [Bb] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
