Start Jamming...
[A] Hey Red Rocker here, listen I know I'm bad on Fords and Chevrolets, all my cars, but I'll be getting you.
My co-manager Ken Leviton manages Ronnie Dunn [E] and he said Ronnie wrote a song [Am] for you and I said oh come on send it you [A] know and it's a car song so Ronnie's a car guy like myself and so he wrote this song called Bad on Fords and Chevrolets.
So I wrote a song, it's called Bad on Fords and Chevrolets, I sent it to you, you're gonna play guitar on it and the next thing I know you cut it.
He stole my song, he stole it, it was too good, it was me.
I got the Wabos in there and we rocked it up [E] man, we just cranked up through Marshalls, me and Vic Les Pauls through Marshall stacks, [Em] Black Stars, [Am] we got the whole rock and roll metal thing going.
They nailed it, of course they're a super well rehearsed band.
[A] I had Sam play guitar, the only thing we added was Dave Zerval playing the lap steel and you'll notice at the end he does these dragster sounds which we borrowed from Bad Motor Scooter.
I was kind of playing looser, a little bit more like Led Zeppelin's rock and roll and kind of a Rolling Stones vibe and he looked at me and said relentless, I want this to be relentless so I stripped down, I think I do two fills in a song, maybe three, you know a four minute song, whatever.
So for me [E] it was an education as far as simplifying my part and really making it, everything [A] count.
[E] I think it's like [C] one of the most rock and country crossover songs ever and after [F#] I finished it I sent it to Ronnie, I said would you sing a duet with me on this.
After I [D] sent it to him and he [Am] put his vocal on there and then he sent it back I had to step it up a little bit, I had to go in and cut a couple of lines [F#] because this phrase was too cool.
I like the way you talk though.
I'll be good to you.
[E] You get through life ok, I'll stumble and make it up to you.
But you land it on your feet.
Bam!
[Am] This is a car song, this is I Can't Drive 55, this is Bad Motor Scooter, this is Trans Am, this is Turn Up the Music, all in one song and [A] Ronnie knows cars.
Sammy, don't put me on the spot, we googled all that stuff while we were writing.
Oh is that the way you do it?
No, no, no, that's the way the country guy does it.
I gotta google it, is it a 449 to 402?
The Ford's a 406 but they made a 401 [E] and I thought well 402.
We always say 402 in the Ford.
Yeah sure do but I changed it to 442 which is [F#] a model number not an engine number.
Oh I can't get under here.
Oh see I assumed [G] he knew all this stuff, this is the first time we had this [D] conversation now.
I googled it.
And he's letting me down here really bad [B] folks.
Oh Sammy don't call, oh no, [A] I know more than I think I do.
Then when we got Ronnie [Am] Dunn's vocal, it completely again transformed [A] the song and I just love it, I think it's one of the best [Am] songs on the record.
I think Ronnie Dunn might be the best country rock [Am] male vocalist in the business.
It's pretty [A] honorable getting to sing with a guy that sings that good.
