[E] playing records.
I started playing records as a disc jockey in 1951.
And back in those years, at Christmas time, country disc jockeys didn't have a lot to play that was seasonal.
We had Ernest Tubbs' record of Blue Christmas,
might have had [B] something for Mr.
Red Foley,
and we had Bill [Em] Monroe's record of Christmas Time's a-Coming, and that was about it.
That was before country, country, I think maybe Ernest had cut, uh,
How'd You Like to Spend Christmas on Christmas Island?
But the country folks had not recorded many country songs.
And Bill, I remember we used to play your song, we just wore it out every year.
Where [B] did Christmas, and Bill's gonna sing it for us now, where did this song come from?
Ralph, a good friend of mine from Texas wrote this song, Tex Logan, he was the writer of it.
Didn't he work with Will Milley and Stoney?
[E] I think so, pretty sure he did.
Yeah, Tex is sort of a genius, I think he is some sort of scientific genius with Bell Laboratories.
That's right.
Plays banjo.
[B] He's a really good fiddler.
And this is an all-time great country Christmas [E] song.
And here's Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys to do it for you.
Bill, if you will, [Bb] please.
