Hey everybody, this is Heather again and this is day 2 of the song of the day post.
I'm going to do it every day for a year.
I'm going to try my best, maybe I won't run out of songs.
Something I failed to mention yesterday, somebody I failed to introduce you to, this is Lulu right here.
Doing what she does best, sleeping.
She's somebody that's awesome to sing for, she just sleeps right there, it's [Bb] pretty good.
But anyway, I thought today I'd sing a Dolly Parton song, this is one that I've been singing
since I was a little girl and I hope I can do it justice and it's called Code of Many Colors.
Back through the years I go on and once again, back to the season [Eb] of my youth.
[Bb] I recall a box of rags someone gave us and how my mama put the [Eb] rags to use.
There [Bb] were rags of many colors, every piece was small and I didn't have a [F] coat and it
wasn't way down in the fall.
[Bb] Mama sewed the rags [Eb] together, sewing every piece with love.
She [Bb] made my coat of many [F] colors that [Bb] I was so [Eb] proud of.
[Bb]
While she sewed she told a story from the Bible she had read about a coat of many colors.
[F] Joseph warned and she said, [Bb] perhaps this coat will bring you [Eb] good luck and happiness.
And [Bb] I just couldn't wait to wear it [F] and Mama blessed [Bb] it with [Eb] a [Bb] kiss.
[Eb] My coat of many colors [Bb] that my mama made for [Eb] me.
Made only from [Bb] rags but I wore [F] it so proudly.
[Bb] Although we had no money [Eb] I was rich as I could be.
[Bb] And my coat of many [F] colors my mama [Bb] laid for me.
[Dm]
[G] [C] Sewed patches on my breeches, holes in both my shoes.
And my coat of many colors [G] I hurried off to school.
[C] Just to find the others laughing [F] and making fun of [C] me.
And my coat of many [G] colors my mama [C] made for me.
Oh I couldn't understand it for I felt I was rich.
And I told them all the [G] love my mama sewed in every stitch.
[C] And I told them all the story [F] mama told me while she sewed and [C] held my coat.
Of many [G] colors was worth more [Cm] than all their [C] coats.
[F] But they didn't understand it [C] and I tried to make them [F] see.
Why they sewed it [C] poor only if they [G] choose to be.
[C] Now I know we had no money [F] but I was rich as I could be.
[C] And my coat of many colors [G] my mama [C] made for me.
And my coat of many colors [G] my mama [Fm] made for me.
[C] Just for me.
