Well if you've heard any songs from us before tonight, you need to know that all the songs
that you've heard from us come from the ministries that we all have in our local churches.
I'm a youth pastor, been a youth pastor for about 15 years.
You got small group Bible study leaders and praise band leaders up here, because we believe
in the local church.
We believe that your talents belong in your church first.
And if God does something else, that's cool, but our church is where we are every week.
There's no next level to the local body of Christ and we believe in that.
And so the songs that you hear, if there's a song about a girl, it's a song about a girl.
And the song that we just sang, the first verse talks about this girl that was trying
to make her way into the church but couldn't.
That was a real live girl that should have been in our student ministry at the time.
But for some reason we had at the time our own idea of the kind of people [D#] God could change,
and maybe there were people that may have gone too far.
So in our minds, in our church, we kind of had lists in our head.
We never had them up on the wall, but you just knew they were there.
It's kind of like this, if you make a mistake on this list over here, maybe God can change
you and we can love you back in.
But if you make a mistake on this list over here, we all just kind of backed away from
you because we didn't want to get any on us.
And what I've discovered is that's not in the Bible anywhere.
What God has shown me is that the person with the scariest, [A#]
[E] the person with the scariest
past you can think of, with the worst reputation you can dream up, we're only two or three
bad decisions away from being that person.
And God, there is no pit so deep he can't reach down and pull you right out of it.
Isn't that [Am] true?
Amen.
[F#]
So we've been singing to this [B] girl for a long time.
That song is [A] actually about 10 years old.
[E] And I guess in a lot of ways, I'm still singing [B] to this little girl because I wanted to know,
[E] I wanted to know that God [C#m] loves her and has a plan for life.
[B] But I guess also I just want to make sure the church [A] knows [E] that God loves her [A] and has
a plan for life.
[E] She is running [B] a [G#m] hundred miles [C#m] an hour in the [G#m] wrong [A] direction.
[E] She is trying, [B]
[D#] but the canyon's [C#m] ever widening [B] in the depths of her [A] cold heart.
[B] So she sets out [E] on another misadventure just to find.
[B] She's another two [E] years older and she's three more steps behind.
[A] But does anybody [E] hear her?
Can anybody [B] see her?
Or does anybody [C#m] even know [B] she's going [E] down today?
Under the shadow of our steeple, with all the lost and lonely [B] people,
searching [C#m] for the hope that's tucked [B] away in you and [E] me.
Does anybody [F#] hear her?
Can anybody [E] see?
She is yearning, [B] shelter
