[N] Hey everybody, Josh Wilson here, and this is my friend Jay.
Jay is my neighbor, and I'm actually interviewing the people who inspired me to write the song Dream Small.
Jay is one of those people because this song is all about the little things, the small
acts of love and kindness that actually add up to big things over time.
There's a line actually in the second verse, and it says, it's visiting the widow down the street.
That line is all about just loving your neighbors, loving the people who are right around you.
And I've never really met anybody who loves their neighbors as much as this guy right here.
I remember when we were actually pulling out our for sale sign in our house eight years
ago, we were pulling it out and we hear somebody behind us go, hello.
We turn around, and it's you.
You were like the first person we met right here in the neighborhood.
So, what do you like to do for fun?
What I like to do for fun is basically ride bikes and work on computers.
Yeah, you love gadgets, don't you?
Yep.
What are some of your favorite gadgets?
iPhones, iPods, old cameras.
What kind of music do you like to listen to?
Old music.
Elvis, Beach Boys, Beals, anything I can stick onto a device.
Yeah, like you put on your different iPods and stuff.
He likes old music.
He's got really good taste.
Jay, the reason that I wanted to talk to you today is because you do so many little things
around our neighborhood to show love and kindness to everybody around here.
I think a lot of it goes unnoticed and unthanked.
First of all, I want to say thank you for the way that you love my family and our neighbors.
I wanted to ask you about some of the things that you do because I hope that some of the
people that watch this video will be inspired and say, hey, I can love my neighbors too,
just like Jay.
We have a friend, her name is Palmer.
I heard a story about how she came home with her kids one time and was trying to get into
her house and it was dark.
Did you help her get inside?
I pulled my iPhone 5 or dedicated flashlight.
I can't remember.
I threw it on and used that.
You lit up the sidewalk, you helped her in, I think you maybe helped carrying some groceries too.
Tell me how riding bikes can help the world.
Creates less pollution.
That's awesome.
A more usable space.
How long have you been riding a bike?
Since about 2005.
How many bikes do you have, Jay?
Seven or eight.
Tell me how you help the others who come to your bike club.
For those that can ride, I go at a slow speed in front of them so they can have some vision
and can use me as something to follow.
That's awesome.
Is that why you're wearing a bright orange shirt?
Yep.
So Jay has a big heart for other people with special needs and so you said that some of
the people who come to bike club are blind or close to blind.
Pretty much all of them.
The way that you go in front of them and you go slowly so they can take your lead and follow
after you with what sight they do have, they can see your bright orange shirt and follow your lead.
That's pretty awesome.
One other example, and there are so many examples of how Jay helps our neighbors, but this happened
the other day.
My son, Asher, who's two, he's got these little flashcards he got as a gift.
They have emotions on them and we're trying to help Asher learn how to say how he's feeling.
Jay, you had a really cool idea of how to use those flashcards to help somebody else.
Like Asher what grows in, give them to the people at church.
For those who don't even know how to talk or they can talk but not as well.
That's what I love about Jay is he's always thinking about how to use the things he has
or the things he sees around to help other people.
That inspires me.
He's always thinking of others and that's what the idea of Dream Small is all about.
The line says, loving God and others as yourself.
Find little ways where only you can help.
What unique ways my friend Jay here has found to help our neighbors and our friends with special needs.
I think this world [G] would be a better place if we were all a little more like Jay.
Jay, thank you so much.
You inspire me, so keep doing what you do.
You guys just follow Jay's lead. Dream Small.
Find little ways where only you can help.
A lot of times that's just leaving your house and loving on your neighbors.
Thanks for watching.
Dream Small.
Don't buy the love you've got to do it [G] all.
Just let
