Hey there, that was my attempt at the solo from Gold by Prince.
Now, breaking it down, it's mainly around the key of G minor [G] pentatonic and let's play
it over B flat major or it could be major pentatonic, however you want to look at it.
And so, what we've got is we start with a big bend from B flat to [Gm] C and [E] then we release
that to the B [Gb] flat.
So the first three notes
[B]
[G] and then we've got a G on 15, so 18, we'll bend it up to [Ebm] 20,
[Eb] release it to 18, then play the G and then bending from the F below it, so B [Ebm] flat,
[B] B
flat, [G] G, okay, and then bending from the F back up to the G.
So, C, B flat, G, [B] F to G, [N]
okay, [G]
that's the first bit.
Then what we do is [Eb] we release to an F and then bend to G [G] and then push up to an A flat.
So we play G [C] here, [E] then G, [Dm] then G again, [Eb] then F, G, A flat.
[G]
[Eb] I'll play that [G] better.
[Gb] [Abm]
And then [Ab] we play,
[E] I'm playing there, [Eb] D flat and F [A] on 18, [Ebm] then B flat on [Db]
[D] 15, [E] then same
again, [Gb]
[B] little double [Db] stop on 18, [C] single note on B flat, [Eb]
15, [D] twice, and then [G] G, F, G, B flat, G.
[A]
So 17, [B] 15, 17, [G] 15, 17.
[Bm] And then I'm playing F, [G] 15, G, 17, then C on 17, so 15, 17, 17, and then again pushing
that up another minor third bend, lots of minor third bends in this, to the E flat.
[N]
And then I'm playing a little classic kind of Prince run down the scale, [Gm]
give it a little
bend back up, [B]
then [Cm] going 17, [Gb] 15, [G] [Bm] 17, 15, 17, [C]
[Bb] 15, [G] 13, 15, [Em] 13.
So down the G [Ab] minor pentatonic scale.
[C] [B]
And then I'm playing again, [Ebm]
again [G] bending to D, then pushing up to an [C] E flat, then adding
some vibrato, [G]
coming back down the scale.
I think it just comes up to about the B flat this time, [Gm]
OK?
So ending on the [G]
[E] 13th fret of the [Ab] A string.
[Gm] [G] And then I'm playing a big bend on C up to D,
[N] twice, and then again, and then the third
time, I'm bending to D and then pushing up to E flat.
Then releasing to a [Ab] C,
[Gm] and then finishing on the B flat.
[N] So from 20 on C, I'm bending up to 22, then [E] pushing it a semitone higher to E flat.
So C, pushing [D] up to E flat, [C]
[Gb] then playing a B flat.
[G] [C] [C] And then [D] similar again, [N]
except this time, bending up to E flat, then back to the D,
releasing to the C, and playing a B flat.
That kind of thing.
[Eb] And then I'm [Ab] playing, [C]
so I'm swapping scales here, now going back kind of over to the B
flat blues scale.
So I'm bending from an [Eb] F, [Gb] bending to a G, then pushing up to an A [A] flat.
So again, that kind of pushing up to [Eb] the minor third.
And then coming down, so from pushing up from 18, all the way up to 21, [D] then [E]
F [C] on 18, [B]
and
then we've got E flat on [Db] 16, [Eb] D flat on 18, [F] B flat on 15, [Gb] A flat [D] on 18, [Em] F on 15.
[Eb]
And then to finish off the lick, I go down the [Ab] neck,
[Fm] [Ebm] [Eb]
[Fm]
[Ab] I play an A flat, [Eb] and it's hard
to hear exactly what he's playing here, it's quite low in the mix, there's a lot going on, but
[Ab] So I play an A flat, [Bb]
B [Ab] flat, A [E] flat, E natural, [F] F, so 1, 3, [E] 1, 2, [G] 3, 2, and E [Eb] flat, a 1, 2,
[Abm] D flat on [D] 4, B flat on [C] 1, A flat on 4, and finishing on F.
[Gm]
And have fun!
[Gm] [G]

[B] B
flat, [G] G, okay, and then bending from the F back up to the G.

[N]
And then I'm playing a little classic kind of Prince run down the scale, [Gm]

[Bb] 15, [G] 13, 15, [Em] 13.
So down the G [Ab] minor pentatonic scale.
[C] [B]
And then I'm playing again, [Ebm]
again [G] bending to D, then pushing up to an [C] E flat, then adding
some vibrato, [G]
coming back down the scale.
I think it just comes up to about the B flat this time, [Gm]

[Gm] [G] And then I'm playing a big bend on C up to D,
[N] twice, and then again, and then the third
time, I'm bending to D and then pushing up to E flat.
Then releasing to a [Ab] C,
[Gm] and then finishing on the B flat.
[N] So from 20 on C, I'm bending up to 22, then [E] pushing it a semitone higher to E flat.
So C, pushing [D] up to E flat, [C]
[Gb] then playing a B flat.
[G] [C] [C] And then [D] similar again, [N]

releasing to the C, and playing a B flat.
That kind of thing.
[Eb] And then I'm [Ab] playing, [C]

[B] B
flat, [G] G, _ _ _ _ _ okay, and then bending from the F back up to the G. _ _ _ _ _
So, _ C, B flat, _ G, [B] F to G, [N] _ _

_ [Ab] So I play an A flat, [Bb] _
B [Ab] flat, A [E] flat, E natural, _ [F] F, so 1, _ 3, [E] 1, 2, _ [G] 3, 2, and E [Eb] flat, _ a 1, 2,
[Abm] D flat on [D] 4, B flat on [C] 1, A flat on 4, _ and finishing on F. _ _
