Hi, I'm Dave Vanronk.
I'm going to start out with a little something [F#] easy.
[G#] This is Green Rocky Road.
It's [F#] in Drop D, [G] sometimes called English D, [F#] tuning.
[B]
[F#]
[B] [F#]
When I go by Baltimore, need no [B] carpet [F#] on my floor, you come along.
Follow me, we'll go down to Galilee.
Green, Green Rocky Road, you're promenading green.
Tell me who you love, tell me who you love.
See that crow up in the sky, he don't walk.
You just fly, he don't walk, he don't run.
Keep on [B] flapping [F#] to the sun.
Green, Green Rocky Road, you're promenading green.
Tell me who you love, tell me who you love.
Little Miss Jane, you run to the wall, don't you stumble.
[B] [F#] Don't you fall, or don't you sink.
Don't you shout, when I see you come running out.
Green, Green Rocky Road, you're promenading green.
Tell me who you love, tell me who you love.
[B] [F#]
Whoop-de-doot-ka, soda cracker does your mama.
[B] Chew [F#] tobacco if your mama, chews tobacco.
Whoop-de-doot-ka, whoop-de-doot-ka, soda cracker, yes.
Green, Green Rocky Road, you're promenading green.
Tell me who you love, tell me who you love.
When I go by Baltimore, need no [B] carpool.
[F#] On the floor, you come along.
Follow me, [B] there's a man, [F#] there's a man in Galilee.
Green, Green Rocky Road, you're promenading green.
Tell me who you love, tell me who you love.
[B]
[F#]
So, let's get in tune [D#] together.
Now, as you can see, I'm capoed up four here.
Now, there's no special reason why that [A#] has to be.
It's just a good key for me to sing [F#] in.
But, [G#] what we're going to do is, you see this low E string is tuned down a whole tone.
So [B] you have a good, solid [F#] bottom there for [C] your bass and D.
[F#]
Now, the thing is, if you bear in mind that that low E is tuned down a whole tone,
then all the fingerings make perfect sense.
So that when you're playing a G chord, [B] that's your G.
[B]
Up a whole tone from where it would be if you [F#] were in regular tuning.
Now, essentially this, just the index finger down here, that's the D that you need.
Everything else is either added or taken off.
[F#]
And then when you need that high F sharp, you just come down [F] and you bar like this.
[F#]
[D#] Here's that [B] G.
It's a G6 chord.
[F#]
So [B] that's really all there is to the verse.
Now, the chorus, [F#] [B]
now this is a little bit tricky.
What it is, is again, it's a G chord.
And it's formed like an F chord would be.
Only your [C] thumb comes around here [B] to get the low tonic.
[F#]
And then you have this little [F#] slide to the open G.
[B]
Now you have some hammer-ons coming up.
You see just, [F#] and then to the [B] G6.
[F#]
Now let's try playing it together slowly.
[B] [F#]
