E-guitar buddies, let's take a look at a blues classic.
Here my train a coming.
[D] [E]
[B]
[G] [E]
Well I wait around the train station, waiting for that train, waiting for the train.
Take me away from this lonesome town.
[D] Well you don't love me no more, [G] and [A] you people bring [E] me down.
Alright, classic song there.
[Em] So there's loads of different versions of this.
I've based this on a few Hendrix versions, especially the intro, but really it's just
a way to find your own way of playing it.
So I nicked the intro off an acoustic version that Hendrix played for our YouTube.
He played it in a different key, he played it down at the [D#] 8th position, but I've moved
it to E so we can play it with the open chords.
So I'm starting [Em] with pulling off from 14 C sharp to B on 12 on the B string, and then
playing a G on 12.
[D]
And then playing 11 and 15 on [E] the G and B strings, F sharp and [Em] D.
[D]
[G] And play the top part of an E chord, so that's [E] 9, 9 and 12.
[G#] And move it to E7, so that's 9, [E] 9 and 10.
[A] [Em] Then I play a classic sort of Hey [C] Joe style lick, again you can put your own licks in
here, [E] but I just went, slid to 7 on the A string, [D] 5, so E to D, [A] slide from 7 down to
5, B to A, [G] G [E] on 3, open E, and hit an E chord.
[Em]
Then I move to the 5th position, [E]
just play 5, 7, 5, 7, 5, 7, little trill, 5, 7, 5, [D] then
7, [E] 5, E to D, and then I play the [B] B chord, B7,
[F] [E] move that chromatically down to [B] A,
[A] [G] play
a little G note, with a slight bend, [E] and then into our main riff.
So I'm playing E, with a down and up stroke,
[Bm] [E] and then [Bm] I slide to B on [B] 4 on the G string,
and [D] pick D on 3 on the B [E] string.
[Bm] [E]
And slide quickly down to A on 2,
[A] then do [G] an open G, hammer and pull off on 2, [E] and then
land on E on 2 on the D string.
[E]
[A]
[Em] [E]
Then we've got a stop on that, and a couple more, and there's various ways to play this
kind of bridge section, so on 100x version we've got, [D]
so, it's got a D chord, and I'm
embellishing it with [D] a little, a few extra notes, D, D, F, F sharp, open, open, 3, 4,
and D, D, [C] C, A, [A] 3, open on the A string, [Dm] [D]
and a G, an A, [E] and back into our main riff.
[G] [A]
[E]
[G] Okay, great fun to play around with, and it's great to play around with the open E blues
scale on [F#m] this.
[G] All [E] those kind of, so if you play open [B] 3, open 2, [G] open 2, open 2, open 3, open 3, so,
[E] also add A [Em] on 5, [E]
you can play lots of great, throwing lots [A] of licks, [F#] nice little hammers
such as [Em] 2, 5, [E] 2, open, [Bm]
and then again on the A string, [G] slight bend on G, [E] open.
[Bm] [Em] [E] So those little, nice little licks you can throw in around [C] those kind of bluesy chord progressions.
It's a great fun one to play, as I say, so many different versions of this in lots of
keys, but it's a good one to jam around.
There's also, some people play the chorus, [B] perhaps with a,
[E] so instead of going D, then
[Bm] half bar G, half bar A, another way would be to play a [B] B7 sharp 9, [A] A7,
[Em] back to E.
So again, lots of variations, the great thing about the blues is you can make it your own.
So do just that, and enjoy, hear my trader coming.
Thanks for watching buddies, cheers!
