Hey guys, welcome back to my channel.
[F] Um, I know I haven't posted in a little while
January [B] was supposed to be a slow month for me and it ended up being
Super super busy.
Um good things though.
I played my [D] first show.
[Em]
[C]
[A] I
Got a bass guitar.
I got [Cm] an acoustic guitar.
[Gm] I am moving apartments this [C] month and
I got a new job
I [G] would be lying if I said that I've been making huge progress on my releases this year because that just [Dm] hasn't happened at all
I'm trying to get back in [F] action.
I want to start really making more beats.
I really [G] want to get more into production this year
Really really really want to release stuff this year
[F] Finally and I you know, I want to play more shows.
So that's kind of where I'm [Am] at
I finally got a free [D] moment to [C] kind of work on this groove
[Bb] And I had written this [D] baseline when I got this crappy little bass [Am] and I was like, oh, this is cool
I started messing with [D] it and I realized like oh, [C] this is super heavy on the hiatus [G] coyote front
And it's probably because I've been listening to napalm's new album
Almost non-stop.
It's like the one piece of music that I keep coming back to you because I just I need it
So so beautiful
[F] So I've named this track napalm because no matter how you look at it napalm is a [G] horrible horrible
And so this is just gonna be like I guess like an experimental [A] soul group kind of in the [N] vein of hiatus coyote
And I'm just gonna walk you through it
Okay.
So like I said this groove really started off with the baseline
So I'm gonna demonstrate that baseline for you.
And this is my shitty little Ibanez bass and this is
How I make it sound less cheap
It has this kind of like ringy thing going on and for this track
I just wanted it to sound a little bit muted.
So I just put a little napkin in there.
Boom saved you like
300 bucks right there.
I'm gonna show you this baseline and
I'll probably play the recording because it's gonna be too quiet for you to hear for the tempo of this
I set it wicked fast set it to
6 8 I know that this groove is like in 3, but I just like having it subdivided
I don't know also fun fact my tripod adapter
Went missing.
So today I'm filming from my music stand because I am a problem solver
[D] Here we go baseline
The
[B] kick pattern it's pretty closely in line with the baseline.
So I'll just show you a quick loop of that
It's gonna sound like this
[D]
Next up I have
[Ab] Shakers, I found out that if you take kind of like two similar sounding shakers almost the same
If you actually take the same sample of a shaker and you just detune one and make it a little bit quieter
You kind of get that same effect
So, I don't know by the way at this point [N] if you haven't figured it out
I think this track is probably most similar to
Mobius streak, this isn't like one of those drunken drum grooves.
This is like one of those like
Experimental weird grooves.
Here's the [Db] shaker
[D]
[N] Shooken up shaken up all shook up.
So I have this really really punchy huge sounding snare
Which I love and so you'll hear it
By the way
I just tightened things up a little bit [B] before you move on
Because one thing that I've really gotten into the habit of is like
Quantizing on the fly like as I go because if I keep adding layers to a messy track
It's just gonna continue to be messy.
So [D] I don't know
[N] Yeah, so I have this electric piano that's so warm and so fuzzy and I'm gonna just play some
Chords over this and it sounds like [F] this [Em]
[Dm]
[N] and just to add another layer of that
I
Used the stock [Ab] electric piano plug-in from logic because even though it's a stock plug-in
It still sounds really good and it's a lot brighter [N] and I find
Actually like a little bit easier to mix than the arterial one.
They're both great, but it's nice to be able to
Blend them.
[G] Oh
[F]
my gosh.
Is that what my forehead looks like on camera?
Time to play pads on the profit
[Dm] [Bm]
All right guys, so we have like most of the groove laid down and I
Decided to kind of like play around [N] with some of napalm's vocal techniques just in terms of like how she
Uses hocketing which is like when you stagger your vocal harmonies so that you have one on the on beat one on the offbeat
The dirty projectors use it all the time
But then I also just got really kind [Bb] of creative with the sound toys plugins [Am] and created like a giant
[F] Delusion of vocals [C] basically.
So anyway, this [Dm] doesn't have lyrics.
It's just a bunch of noise.
Here we go
