Hi, I'm Rick Emmett from Triumph and here we are in the CBC studio once again with my double neck guitar
And we're going to look at a song called never surrender _ which was
1982-83 ish _ and
It was a real double neck kind of song
when we originally
_ started writing this it had a kind of a chord progression that had a
reggae kind of feel underneath a very _
_ Plotting rock but reggae kind of feel and so the chord progression
Which is a little bit complicated had a kind of a feel like this _ _ _
_ [E] _ _ _ _ _ [Am] _ _
_ _ [D] _ [E] _ _ [Em] _ _ [D] _
_ _ _ [Am] _ _ _ [E] _ _
_ So that was the basic thing it had that ba ba ba ba ba ba the
_ Two little sort of triplet figures to end the thing and it's in an odd time signature
the chord progression was like an e minor 7 a
[Em] _ _ _ _ _ _
[D] _ _ _ D and then it was an a minor 7, but it had a rolly kind of lick in it.
That [Em] was _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
[C] _ _ [D] _ [E] The two [C] arpeggios to end which is a C major [D] D [A] major _
_ _ [Em] _ _ [D] _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ [E] _ _ _ _ [Em] _ _
[Bm] _ _ [E] _ [C] _ _ _ _ [D] _
[E] _ _ [Em] Out of [D] the streets _
[Am] Inspiration comes [D] hard
_ [E] _ _ [Em]
How [D] it works?
[Am] Just keep repeating and then it had two chord shots that were like
_ [Bm] _ _ Because the song actually started with three chord shots which were _ an a minor 11 a B [B] minor 11 and an e
[Em] _ minor 7 add 11 and this is very 12 [Am] stringy you get the sound of these
_ _ [Em] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ boom [Am] whack _
_ [Em] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[E] boom whack
_ _ [Em] _
So [A] you get that _ reggae hard rock kind of thing, but you're getting this
[B] _ _ _ _ Washy
[Em] 12 string through a chorus kind of sound and that set up the progression that I just showed you
_ [D] _
_ _ And then later on in the [B] tune
I would switch next and switch patches so that I could play the riff
Main riff behind the solo and I'll show that to you now pretty simple and a lot of fun [E] to play is
_ [B] _
[A] _ _ _ _ [C] _ _ [Bm] _
[E] That's going like a
[C] [B] C B a G [F#] F sharp _ [D] and _ _ [E] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [A] you can turn the [E] single notes into power chords if you want
_ [F#] _ [A] _ _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [B] _ _
[E] _ _ _ _ _ _ [Em] kind of fun _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [F#m] _ _ _ [Em] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [N] _ _ _ _
