Russell, I was so shocked when I heard that you'd be singing for us.
Wow!
I thought, how did he even
know about us?
Were you from London, England?
Or England anyway, right?
Yes, your show travels the
world.
So it was a really is a great privilege to be here with all you lovely people today and
I've been incredibly well looked after.
I have to say that very, very well looked after.
It makes a
refreshing change.
Russell, you had something happen last year.
You want to share that with us?
I think around about two years into my career, which was about two years ago now, I started to
experience vocal problems.
I had a lump on my vocal cord.
I think up until that point in my
career, I'd been quite blasé about my career, about my life, about my talent, my God-given talent.
And of course, the big wake-up call was when the doctor said, I'm afraid you have a lump on your
vocal cord.
And the bottom line is, is you could lose some of your register.
You could
lose your voice.
My worst fears confirmed.
My whole world fell apart.
And I think up until that [F] point,
I'd thought about God, but not really in the sense that I'd ever, I think, really asked for
his help or his guidance with anything.
And I think that that was the point where,
as we say in England, in Manchester, the lights came on.
And I remember as they were wheeling me
down to the [A] theatre to have the operation, I was watching the lights flashing by on the ceiling
and I said, God, if you're listening, please, just one more chance.
And thank God I came out
the other side.
The voice was intact.
It was a complete success.
[N] And here I am today.
You're about to hear truly one of the greatest classical tenors in history, Russell Watson,
all the way from London to make it to Morning Church.
Thank you, Russell.

Russell Watson, where have you been all my life?
Thank you for coming here.
Oh my.
And you have a CD and it's at our bookstore.
So go pick it up.
I want to pick that one up.
I really do.
I want to hear you again and again.
I don't think I've said that very often in this public.
You really stirred me today.
Thank you, Russell Watson.
