_ This is a video about how to play the Irish Baron.
I used to be in an all-women Irish group called the Hags and I only got one drum lesson.
This is the story of how that happened.
I replaced a lead singer and they handed me the drum because she used to play the drum as well and they said,
figure out how to play this thing.
So I did and I love it.
And this is the story of how that came to be. _ _ _

The story of how I got to play the Irish Baron.
When I was [N] in high school, I was a [B] majorette.
Learning a skill that I thought I would forget. _
[A] _ _ _ _ _ _ [B] What might come in handy or where your [D] life will go.
[C#] I started performing, I joined an Irish band.
[N] They put a stick and a big drum in my hand.
There's a drum called the _ _ Irish Drum.
[E] Hold tight to the stick, it will sail across the room.
So [D] I'm playing the Baron, a simple Celtic drum.
[A] Something about [D] it makes the Irish in me hum.
If you need a lift or if you're feeling blue.
Bumping on the Baron is a thing that you should do.
Bumping on the Baron [C#] is a thing that you should do.
We have just one lesson and I'll give it now to [D] you.
When you go home you can give it a try too.
If you're a nun of heart, there can be no doubt.
The best time to practice, when your neighbor's out. _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [D#m] Hold the stick like a pencil and start real slow.
One beat at a time till you get into the flow.
_ [D#] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [D] _ _ Remember _ _ _ _ _ _ [F#] _ _
_ after a while you are sure to get [G#] the gist.

[D#] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [D#] And you're [A] playing the Baron, a simple [E] Celtic drum.
Something about it makes the happy in you [D#m] hum.
[D] If you need a lift or if you're feeling blue.
Bumping on the Baron is a thing that you should do.
[E] Bumping on the Baron is a thing that you should do.
[D] As you keep playing, back in soon we'll hit.
By accident at birth, it's an unplanned triple F.
If you don't mind me saying, you might make it a goal.
To get that random hitting thing under your control.
_ _ Now maybe to show off a bit or as an [F#] afterthought.
You might want to throw in what I call a [C] rim shot.
You might play a [D] jig, _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ or a little crank out [C] a reel.
_ _ _ [D] _ _
Crank out a reel. _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [C] Up, [D] down, sideways or make an up in me.
_ And you're rocking the Baron, [D] a simple Celtic [F#m] drum.
Something about it is an [F#] awful lot of fun.
You'll amaze your friends and your family [C#] too.
Bumping on the Baron, [F#] cheaper than therapy, it's true.
Here's a moment to show you.
[D#] Now by turning [C] round, you [C#] can raise up the [C] pitch.
Or bring the pitch back down.
[C#] Hold on to the crossbars, push it in and out.
And if you're drunk, dry apply a thimble full of stout.
[D] _
That makes you like a waste, [D] so much left of the brew.
What happens to the rest [C#] of it?
I'll leave that up to you.
[C] Now this lesson [C#] _ _ is this tune.
Go get yourself a Baron or a big [D#m] book and a spoon.
_ [F] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [F#m] And you'll play the Baron, a simple Celtic drum.
Something about it makes your ancestors hum.
If [D] you need a lift or if you're feeling blue.
[C#] Bumping on the Baron is the thing that you should do.
