AE Guitar Buddies had a request for the Waterboys Hole of the Moon
and I found a really [C] nice simple way to play it
[G] [C]
[G] [F]
[G]
[F] [C]
So that sequence plays throughout most of the song
So I'm starting on a C and I'm playing it 3 on the A string
2 on the D string, open G, 1 on the B string and 3 on the E string
And that lets me just take off my 2nd and 1st fingers to get a G over C
[G]
[C] Back to C
[G]
Now the next chord is an F
But what I'm playing is I'm simply moving this shape up to 8, 7, open, 6, 8
So I've got an F with an added G
Nice jangly chord
And
[G] then again taking off my 2nd and 1st fingers to give me a G over F
And if I get that top string I'm kind of adding a suspended 4th as well
And that's
[C]
[G] [C]
[G]
[F]
[G]
[C] the basic progression for most of the song
Around 2 minutes 15 we've got a bridge section which is kind of like this
[G] [A]
[G] [F]
[C] [D]
[C]
[G] Back into the verse
[C] So I'm just playing C
Then G over B
So 2 on the A string, open D, open G
And a D on 3
So I'm just moving that to that
[G] [Am] A minor, [Bm] E minor 7
So I'm literally just playing 2 on the A string
E minor 7 F
[F]
[C] C over E
So just a [E] C chord but the bottom note being the open E [C] string D [Dm] minor
Back
[C] to C over E
Back into our
Towards the end of the song you'll hear a few sections that are slightly shorter
In that they go from C to C over G
[G] And then straight to [C] F to F over G
So whereas before it went to C, C over G, C, C over G
It just goes C, C over G, [G] straight to F, [C] F over G
And back to C, C over G, C, C over G
So if you listen to the song you can follow those
It's the same chords but slightly shorter
