Okay, here's what happened.
I was working on an original tune, or at [B] least I thought I was, trying to come up with something
new [E] of my own.
[Ebm] And what I discovered was I was playing an old favorite [F] [Abm] unintentionally, but I still
can't use it.
So I decided to share with you what it was I was doing.
Open G tuning.
[D] [G] D, G, [D] P, [G]
G, [B] D, which is the major third, which is going to [Ab] wind up being our enemy, and a D.
Barring the fifth fret, or capoing the fifth fret, I don't like to use capos or pinhuts.
So, um, [C] that's a C.
By putting my [Ab]
ring finger on the seventh fret of the higher G string, that's a D, our 9.
[C]
[F] That makes the F chord.
[C] [F]
[Bb] Now to get the A minor.
[Am]
There's an [Abm] A.
Oh yeah.
[D] Not using that string much.
[Ab]
Unless it's when I'm muting it.
I know Keith Richards has a 5 string.
I can't afford to have a custom Telecaster made with 5 strings, so I don't have one.
[A] Um, A, A.
[Am]
[C] If you leave that open, it's a G, and now [G] you have an A minor 7.
[Am] [Ab] I think the G chord Richards uses is [G] this one, which is the F moved up one [Ab] position,
or two frets.
[G]
I like to just use the open [Bm] strings, but like I said, that makes it [Eb] a G major, and to keep
the minor bluesy [C] feeling, you don't want to do that.
[F] [C] [F]
[Abm] But [E] as I was working on this song on my own, I discovered I'm [Eb] playing Waiting on a Friend,
and I don't want to get sued, although [Ab] I could use the publicity.
So, that's what I did.
Basically, I probably shouldn't have learned as much stone stuff as I did, because it did
wind up becoming more than an influence.
It rubbed off on me [C] hard.

[Em] [G] [E]
Yeah, I made a few mistakes.
I don't usually practice other people's [Eb] stuff, because it tends to get ingrained.
I don't usually make it a practice to learn other people's [Em] stuff either.
So, [B] I don't know a ton of cover songs, and [E] I don't know if I'm playing exactly the way
the original artist did.
