1 month of Banjo chords
Start Jamming...
I have been playing banjo for about a month.
I've been playing about an hour every day with some notable exceptions.
I started out, can't play a musical instrument, never played a musical instrument.
So,
this is my first musical instrument and
I've learned a few things for better or for worse.
[C] I guess the first thing to start off is with the rolls and the forward roll [Bm] is like this.
[G] [D]
So that's one and they say that I should be
emphasizing
accuracy and
[C#] correctness of tone over speed, but I tend to really want [C] to go fast.
So I haven't done so well in that part of it.
Anyhow, [Cm] the next roll is a mixed roll.
It's a forward or called the [B] forward-backward roll and it [G] goes like this.
[E] And then the speeded up version is [G] this.
[A#] The next roll is the Scruggs roll or the alternating thumb roll which can be played in a couple different ways.
Nice and slow [G] it's like this.
And then you can change it a little bit something like this.
[F#]
Little messy at the end.
I've learned a couple songs and I find it much easier at this point to play
the easy songs that don't require a lot of fancy stuff with the left hand just regular chord changes.
But I'm working on the fancy stuff too.
The first song that I learned and that I've actually kind of think I got down pretty well is
Boiled and Cabbage Down and it goes like this.
[Bm] [G] [C]
[G] [D]
[G] [C]
[G] [D] [G]
[N]
I'm starting to work on bringing this one up faster like they play it for real and
sometimes I can get it and sometimes I can't but I'll try to play it fast.
[G] [C]
[G]
[C]
See I lose a little bit of the accuracy in tone, but it's kind of fun to play [G#m] something at speed.
The next song that I've learned is the Old Grey Goose, which is another
relatively very simple song.
[G]
[D] [C#] [G]
[Gm]
[D] Here's another version.
[G] [D]
[G]
And that's that [N] one.
The next song that I know is Cripple Creek, and I don't play it very well, but I can play it.
[G] [G]
[Em] [Bm] [G]
[E] [Bm]
[G] [N]
