Start Jamming...
Oh, okay.
When I was, uh
Like, 13?
Maybe?
Or 14?
Are you 13?
Is that what you're saying?
I love being 13.
Who doesn't love 13?
Are you 13?
Are you 13?
No.
I was like, oh god, how old are you really?
14?
15.
Okay, well when I was your age, um
Which was over a decade ago, um
Uh, we went to a pretty rough junior high.
Um, [A] you know, like it wasn't uncommon for people to fight during lunch [Bb] and
[B] Fight in the middle of classes [Am] and, you know, skip out [E] to do drugs.
And like, I remember one time we went to the mall after school and [G] two of our friends got in a fight.
And were chasing each [Eb] other around with a butcher [G] knife.
Where they got the butcher knife from, I do not know.
[N] Um, but, big knife, running, police, it's crazy.
And, uh, [Db] I think about how sensitive we are now and how [Gb] good we are now.
And I don't understand why my [D] parents didn't take us out of that school.
[D] But, um, [N] but we managed, um, we also managed to never really get beat up, which was good too.
Um, but we were very alternative.
We had long hair, we used to bleach the front parts.
And then we would dye it different colors every week.
My mom would take us to the
Let's go to the party!
Yeah!
[Db] Totally.
[Ab] I went off to the show.
They stay up all night here, so.
[G]
Um, [N] so we used to dye our hair different colors.
And, um, we would wear, like, giant pants.
Like, giant, like the legs would be like this wide.
And, big chains down to the floor.
And my stepdad had a gym in his basement.
And so there was lots of chain laying [E] around.
And, um, I cut a piece of chain like this long.
And he [B] put a clamp on it and I used to wear [Eb] it around my neck.
Um, yeah.
And then I would go to a rave and dance with that on me.
I know, I know, isn't that great?
I know.
I could have probably been a contestant [F] on a TV show.
I was so, um, agile [Gb] then and strong.
And, uh, now I wake up every morning [Ab] and I have to stretch for 20 minutes because my back [N] hurts so much.
And I'm like, how did that happen?
And he's like, oh yeah, I danced on acid for four hours with a chain around my neck.
Um, but that's what being a teenager is about.
About doing ridiculously stupid things and then [C] crying and fighting with your parents about how not [G] ridiculous they are.
Um, that's a rebellious [Gb] time and that's what you're supposed to [G] do.
And, uh, [E] I feel like the rebellious time that I went through made me [Cm] the person [E] that I am today.
And, uh, I think that, um, it's better to get it out then.
Because there's nothing worse than a 25 year old with a giant chain and giant [Eb] hair.
I know.
I see those guys on the block and I'm like, douche.
[C] Stop.
That's how they express themselves.
I know it is, [D] actually.
It's totally fine.
It's totally [A] fine.
Um, but anyway, um, this next song I [N] wrote, I wrote about the feeling of
This is terrible, I'm falling.
This next song I wrote about the feeling of the [G] first time you really fall in love.
And the first time I fell in love was, like, much younger than this song dictates.
It's sort of like, I was making fun of myself that the first time I thought I really fell in love,
it lasted like five months and we got a cat and then we broke up.
And, [Bb] um, [G]
I'm a good old lesbian and, [N] uh
I'm not really a lesbian anymore.
I'm like a heterosexual male.
I'm like
I'm not meeting your parents, so I don't care.
No, I'm not sleeping at your house.
I'm [Eb] out with my friends.
And, um, [D] I'm getting better as I get [Gb] older, but, um
[G] Anyway, but when I was 19 I thought [A] that I had fallen madly in love.
[N]
And this song, this next [Ab] song, it's not even about that time.
It's that I fell in love again when I was 25, [Gm] but I did all the same stupid things.
[G] And I realized that I was acting 19.
[Gbm] So it's kind of like I was saying, like, I'm acting [Ab] 19, now I am 19.
[N] So, I'm pretty clever.
Sometimes when I find myself, so
[Ab]
Um, [G] anyway, some history for you right there.
I
[E] [N]
[E] vowed to be my wife's before [Abm] I ever met you.
[Gb]
When I was [E] a child, we were [Ebm] both first time [Gb] talkers.
We [E] would mumble and keep [Abm] it a secret.
[Gb]
I vowed [E] to be my wife's [Abm] [B]
[E]
before I ever met [B]
you.
[E]
I vowed
[Ebm] [E]
to be my wife's before [Eb] I ever thought to.
[Gbm]
Even losing [Eb] weight, now I'm beside you.
[Gbm] I tell you, [Ab]
what's moving [Eb] my heart.
And I don't even know [Gbm] you.
But I [E] was saying goodbye.
Bye, [Abm]
[B] bye.
I was saying goodbye, my [Ebm] baby.
[B] I was saying goodbye, my [E] baby.
[Ebm] [E]
[Ebm] [E]
[Abm] We lived too long, but [Gb] you're the girl we met.
[B] And you stayed inside, and we're [E] so upset.
[Abm] And you're a double plant, [B] so who'd have said
[Gb] That with all alone, you [E] were all I had.
[Abm] I'm [E] a villain.
[B] You were all I had.
[Abm] I'm a [E] villain.
[B] I was your girl's side.
I was your girl's side.
I was my [Gb] girl's
[Eb] [E]
[Ebm]
side.
