What's up everybody, welcome to Sergio's Guitar Lessons, I thank you for being here.
The video of this week will be a bit different because in a couple of days I'm going on European
tour with my band The Outsiders so I won't be able to shoot any videos for that time.
So I've prepared 11 licks for you to practice and most of them are based on the 8th note
dominant scale, also known as the half step, whole step scale.
It's a scale mostly used over dominant chords in order to give them an outside sounding
quality.
For the ones who don't know what's outside improvisation is or outside sound is, most
people refer to it as playing the wrong notes.
Well, those wrong notes sound actually really amazing so I wouldn't refer to it like that,
I would say it's about playing unexpected notes that sound really cool.
So in order to start practicing this or if you know already about this scale and want
to learn some new stuff, I prepared some licks, there are 11 of them but 2 are not based on this scale.
The ones based on this scale though, I have made short ones for you to use on your improvisations
to fill in the gaps or add a bit of that outside sounding flair to your improvisations.
Some of them are long and cover a lot of the fingerboard.
I find this really nice when you're going crazy with your improvisation and want to
come really fast from point A to B.
Well anyway, they're really fun to play, I hope you enjoy them and we see each other
in 2 weeks.
Have fun, practice, bye bye!
