_ _ _ _ _ I will play the most common rugs for you in Hawaii style _
from the possible two strings, from the Katai string and from the Wang string.
We start with Rug Bay Raui, which is the [G] most common string we have.
Beginning from Katai.
[Abm] 10, _ [Bb] 11, [C] 13, [D] 20, [Eb] 22, 23, [F] 30, [G] 32. _
[Abm] _ [Gm] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [Ab] Sometimes we don't use 11 [Bb] but 12 also.
_ [C] _ _ [Bb] _ _ [Gm] _ _
So we can also use this fret sometimes.
Then the scale would be [Ab] 10, 11, [A] sometimes 12, _ [Bb] 30, [C] _
[D] 20, 22, [Eb] [Gm] 23, 30, 32. _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Okay, the next rug is Rug Asawari, Dabari, Jampori, Zilla or Jingla.
It's all the same from the scale, not from [N] the movement.
I will call it Jingla.
And we have nearly the same scale as Rug Bay Raui.
It's just that we never use fret number 11 but always fret number [G] 12. _
_ So we have [A] 10, 12, [Bb] 30, [C] _ 20, [D] 22, [Eb] 23, [F]
30, [Gm] 32. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [C] _
The next rug which is very often [N] used is Rug Pahari or Pahadi or Pahari.
I think the right form should be Pahari
_ because it's from the mountains region in India which is called Pahar.
So we have some different frets [G] than Pahari.
We often use the fourth fret.
So the scale is _ 10, [A] 12, [B] _ 14, [C]
20, [D] 22, [F] _ 24 and [Gb] now 31.
Not [G] using 30 and 32. _
[A] _ [Em] _ _ _ _ _ [Am] _ _
_ _ _ [Em] _ _ _ [A] _ [C] _
_ _ _ Alright, so the last rug I will introduce to you is Rug Kamaj
_ which is very often used in Pashti music too.
There are many possibilities to play it.
I will [Ab] play it from position number 11.
_ _ Then we have 11, _ [C] _ 20, [Db] 21, [Eb] _
23, _ [F] _ 30, [Gb] 31, _ [Abm] _ 33.
_ And often we go in the upper octave [Bb] with _ 35. _
_ So in this position _ _ the low re _ number [Gm] 13 is not played
but only the high re position [Ab] number 35.
So the scale _ [Eb] [Db] is_
_ _ _ _ [Fm] _ _ _
Okay, _ [N] the last rug I will introduce is not very often used
but _ _ sometimes in results it's called Bayro or Bayrawa. _
_ _ _ It's [G] something the Easterns would call the jars.
And the scale _ _ [Abm] is_
_ _ [C] _ [F] [G] So, _ _
_ _ [Abm] _ _ [G] _ _ _
nearly like Bayrawi, just in Bayrawi we have position 13
and in Bayro we have position 14.
We have 10, [Abm] 11, 14, [C] _ 20, [Cm] 21, [Eb] 23, [Fm] _ _ _
30, [G] _ _ 32. _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[Abm] _ [G] _ _ There's also another variety of Bayrawi which does not use 30 but 31.
This would go _ 10, [Ab] _ _
[B] 11, 14, [C] _ [D] 20, 22, [Cm] 23, [Gb] 31 _ [C] and then 32.
[Gb] _ [Em] _ _ _ [Abm] _ [Cm] _
_ _ _ _ [Abm] _ _ [G] _ _
[C] _ _ Okay, the most common rugs like Bayrawi [G] and Zilla or Zhingla
are not always played from the first string, from Katai
but often [N] also played from the bum string.
So Bayrawi from bum string would [C] be [Db] 20, 31, [Eb] 23, [F] 30, _ [G] 32, [E] 33, [Bb] _ 35 [Fm] and _ 37.
_ [G] _ _ [C] _
[Eb] _ [F] _ _ [C] _ _ _ [Bbm] _ [C] _
_ The same for Asawari which can also start on this middle string, on the bum string.
Then you have just position number 22 instead of 21
and it goes 20, [Dm]
22, [Eb] 33, [Fm] [G] 30, [Bb] 32, 33, _ [Fm] 35, 37.
_ _ [Bb] _
So, _ _ _ _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ why do we play from two different positions?
[D] Simply because when the melody goes very low
we need the Katai string for the low part of the melody.
[Eb] _ _ [C] _
_ [Abm] _ [G] _ _ _ _ _ _
[C] _ _ [Abm] _ _ [Fm] _ So, [C]
if you would start on the [F] Katai string, there's no place for the lower notes.
Okay, I hope this was a little bit helpful.
See [N] you. _
