[E] 440 [F#] Hertz, [E] 432 Hertz.
Does it make a difference?
I get questions from time to
time asking if I've ever tuned my guitar [B] to a standard of [A#] A432.
So 432 Hertz
versus [B] A440 which is the typical [C#m] standard.
Now I don't want to get into
all the potential cosmic implications of the [D#m] difference in tuning [A#] but I thought
it would be a lot of fun [C#m] to do a shootout.
[G#m] Here's how I set things up.
[A] First of all [E] I decided that I would play at the same tempo no matter what the
tuning and that's because a lot of the [A#] comparisons that I've heard here on
YouTube will take a piece of music and then [D#m] slow it down [E] from A440 to A432 [A#] and
just kind of slow the audio down.
[E] Well that lengthens the audio and slows down
the tempo and I don't think that's quite fair.
So I set a [C#m] metronome up for
[E] 60 beats per minute 60 BPM and I play that [N] on both versions the 440 and 432.
I
then selected some very simple E major chords so they're versions of E major
and I played them both the same way as close as I could for both the A432 and
A440 versions of the recording.
So here's the shootout part.
I'd like you to
listen to both versions.
I'm gonna label it version 1 and version 2 and then you
can skip back and forth between the two versions and decide which one you like
[E] better and then don't go away because at the end of the video I will tell you
which is which.

Now which one did you like better?
Alright I'll tell you which is which.
Version 1 is A432.
Version 2 is A440.
[A#] So again that
question is which one did you [E] prefer?
You might be thinking, Bill which one did
you prefer?
Well I'm gonna be a little coy and not really say which one I
prefer.
I kind of like them both.
I think it depends on the context and you know
to be quite honest sometimes my tuning can be off by 8 cents on my [F#] guitar.
Well
I hope you've [D#m] enjoyed this [F#] little comparison [E] shootout.
