Music [E] for me, the very first time I ever played music was to escape [D] violence that was happening
in my house.
It was [A] just around me all the [Dm] time.
I was born into it.
My best friends'
parents [E] were jazz teachers at a university.
There was [D] music and art.
All my mom's friends,
all [A] my family's [G] friends, graphic arts, fine arts, music, music, music, [Em] music.
And there
was a [D] piano in the house.
So [A] every time there was [Bb] the pattern of chaos would show up, I'd
just bolt over to the [D] piano or [E] whatever I'd get [Cm] my hands on.

I have to [Cm] clear my mind and
not think whatsoever of anything.
I place my hands on the keys, [G] sort of like, [Gb] usually
it's in some kind of appropriate [D] fashion naturally.
[G] I'll start to warm up a little bit.
Or sometimes
I'll wake up and walk right over and I'm just ready, sit down, just [D] totally pro, right all
the way [G] through.
And I don't even know where I came from until [D] afterwards.
When it's done,
then I go like, what?
What was that?
[G] I view music and art now as a journal.
[E] Like it's
your journal [G] on your, because there's so much out there, you're not going to see it [D] all.
There's no way you're going to see [G] every jellyfish, every dolphin, every whale, every this, every
maybe throughout [Ab] lifetimes after lifetimes.
But in this one, [G] so it's like a documentation
or a journal rather.
[D] And if I can sound like [G] things look around here, they're [E] growing,
then I've done my job, keeping my journal and doing my work.
[A]
That's what it is.
You're
in perfect, perfect harmony with nature and [G] all that exists when you're there, [Am] when you're
in that spot.
And you can stay [E] in that spot for hours.
