Hi, and welcome to my tutorial on how to make your 12-string acoustic guitar easier to play.
Back in the old days, when I first got my 12-string, I used to have a real problem pressing down the strings
because on a 12-string guitar, when you tune it E-A-D-G-B-E, the tension is really great on the strings.
So you've got to press down, put some real pressure on there, and no matter how I adjusted it, it still was hard to play.
I talked to my luthier, and he suggested that I tune the guitar a whole step down,
which is not E-A-D-G-B-E, [D] but D [G]-G [Cm]-C [F]-F [Am]-A [Dm]-D.
And if I wanted the guitar to be in standard tuning, I simply put a capo at the second fret.
[E] Now, with the capo at the second fret, we have E [A]-A [D]-D [G]-G-B [Em]-E.
Standard tuning.
[A] [C] [G] [Am] [C]
[Bm] [Am] [C] [G] [Am] [D]
[G]
And that's the way I've played my 12-string ever since.
I can play it [Gb] anywhere on the neck, and [Em] it's easy to play.
[Am] [G]
[Abm] [Gb] [Bm]
[B] [G] [Bb]
[D] [Em] [Gb] [G]
Well, alright.
That's it for this tutorial.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day.
