[A]
The new wave of Australian hard rock started deep behind the walls of an unassuming concrete
bunker in [D] the Sydney suburb of Burwood.
[A]
Hold up inside were three Scottish brothers.
[G]
[D] George Young from the [A] 60s Easy Beats and his little brothers, Malcolm and Angus, were beating
out a rhythm that would soon flake the nation's fibro-houses.
[D]
[Gm] [D]
[A] Fourteen year old Angus was so eager to get into the guitar he would never change out
of his school uniform.
A lot of it was nerves at first.
When I started in the band I was pretty much shy.
It was hard to get me [Am] to sort of push myself [A] forward.
But Malcolm and George always should [E] have said no.
You know it would be cool if [Eb] we had a song [Fm] that had [E] the chords A C [B] D C in it.
So what we [A] done was, [C] there's the, you [D] got C and you got D [E] [C] and [G] C.
[Ab] So we more or less
threw them [A] together.
And I had a little chant, this high [Fm] voltage thing that I was singing, which Phil the drummer,
he felt was rather corny but he paid the rent.
Well [A] this is it.
And that's [C]
[D] [A] A.
[C] [D] [A]
So if you C on a guitar you've got [C] high [D] voltage and you've got C [C]
and you've
got high voltage [Gm] for A C D C.
So you've got the chords into the song.
[Gb] So that was the idea behind high voltage.
He [A] had this,
[Ab] I put [F] this bit of colour over the top which was this little lick.
[Cm] [A]
[Gm] [A]
And then Bon came up with the lyrical idea that,
Ride down the highway.
[D] I'm not going to sing.
