[E] I remember [A] back in Black, it was [Em] particularly difficult
[N] because the boys were saying,
listen, John, we want this song in memory of Bond,
but we don't want it to be sad or maudlin.
We want it to be a good thing,
and a positive song.
And so it was pretty tough,
but I think we managed it pretty good.
You know, it's kind of slow,
but it's got a great riff, you know,
and it was a toughie, that [E] one.
[A]
[E] [D]
[Em] [B] Well, [D] it was different, you [B] know,
completely different to anything come on for rock,
[D] you know, and [A] it had that
Da-da, da [F#]-da, da-da, da-da.
From day one, when I first [E] heard Mal play to me,
the riff idea, I just thought, [Bm] what a cool lick.
That was [F#] almost funky in nature or soul.
It's like a soul vibe, with scat.
[E] You know, we always liked the swinging riffs,
and he asked me, and I went, hey,
it swings, it's got a groove, you know,
and it was [B] different.
And I said, if you don't like it, I'll have it.
I'll say I wrote it.

[E] [B] [G]
[D] The guys wanted it to be a [C#m] good rock record,
[F#] in memory of Bond, but without the slapper,
without all the mulch and the crap
that usually goes with that.
[D] And it [F#] was one of the best of the album to be black.
And I filled it with names like Nine Lives, Cat's Eyes,
you know, [E] because Bond had [B] lived on the edge
for a long time, I guess, you know,
and he'd always made it [E] through.
And I think it was a shock for the lads
that this time [A] he didn't.
If anything, [E] the track that I wanted [B] to get out
was Back In Black itself.
[G] So I was just happy at hearing that, you know.
