Hello, how you all doing?
Mike Bradley here, hope you're doing well as always.
Now today
I have a mic with a bit of tape because I've lost the gold thing to hold it on my stand
which is really annoying and I've got my old, very battered Takamine Acoustic and a little
while ago I posted a bit of slide acoustic playing on my Instagram page and since then
a lot of people have messaged me asking for some not only acoustic blues stuff but for
slide stuff so I thought I'd just show you a little idea which I came up with, ooh, about
four minutes ago and I thought I'd just show you it because it's kind of cool and the kind
of secret with slide in a blues style is defining that major and minor thirds, [Am] that's the kind
of secret sauce
[D] [F] if you're playing electric guitar, if you're playing acoustic guitar it's
about those thirds and so I've been kind of mucking around with slide guitar for a couple
years now, I need to really sit and practice it a bit more, I just kind of muck around
with it and have fun but it's a really cool thing to get under your fingers, I do play
with a pick but I do think the better tone is with just the fingers and I'm doing it
with just fingers today though it might be a little bit quieter than what I wanted but
heyo, but let's just jump up for a close up so you can see a bit more up detail and let's
have some fun with it.
Right then guys, here we are, close up time, so for this little
[E] idea I'm kind of slapping the 6 string here, nice hard thud and then [B] sliding anywhere or
starting from [E] anywhere [F] and then going to the 12th fret, if you've never played slide before
I should also mention you don't want to be [E] in, no where you usually would play the notes,
be in the middle of the fret there, with slide you want to be over the actual fret you're
playing over, so this is the key of E and [G] we want to be on the 12th fret literally over
those [E] frets and so I'm hitting the 6 string, sliding from [Gb] anywhere, going to the [Ab] 12th fret
on the 2nd string [Em]
[Am] and then hitting the 1st string [E] and letting them both ring out and
just give it a good vibrato side to side, alright [Eb] so you're kind of going back from
the note back to the note and then almost going forward to the note and back again,
you know just like vibrato, [Ab] no up or down in [Em] pitch, I'm just caressing that note alright
just by going back and forth like that and then my right hand is muting out all the other
unwanted [E] strings, ok got that there and now we're [Ab]
going to slide from the 8th fret to
the 9th fret ok on the 2nd [E] string and then going up to the 9th fret on the 3rd string
which is the root note and this is the whole kind of [Eb] minor and major thirds business,
[E] there we've got [G] a G [Ab] and [E] then a G sharp
[A] alright so you've got the minor third there G [F] and you've
got a major third G sharp [G] there [E]
[Eb] and that's what gives it that kind of Delta Blues kind [E] of sound
[G] [E] and [Ab] then [G] this cool idea here if I do say so myself we're going to go C sharp [D] to [A] D [Bb] you can
milk that for however [D] long you want I seem to be doing three times there 1 2 3 [E]
and then on the
4th [D] time play the D [E] and slide back [A] to that root note E I [Gb] think when I used to do I use my first
yeah [E] [A]
I use my first finger and my thumb so in real world situation my thumb is on the 4th string
just kind of muting it out if I wanted to play a note there it's kind of ready and ready for
action [A] and [G] then you're going to slide into that E there so [E] slowly and [A] [E] [A]
[E]
then after that we're going
to play the 9th fret on the 2nd string which if you think of an E major chord there's your triad
for that so they're [Eb] [E] all going to sound cool alright [D] so [E]
I'm going to slide from the 9th fret on the
2nd string to the [Em] 12th and [N] then play that first string which is the high E which [Em] again that is a
triad of E up here if you think [E] of your E major chord you know so again defining the thirds the
major and minor and then seeing the chords and playing the arpeggios you know that really helps
with slide playing as well and that's the idea guys
[G] [A]
[E]
[A]
[G] [N] there's my sexy Delta bluesy slide Surrey lick
the Delta blues in Surrey England but yeah kind of be a no take your time of it really [A]
[Em] [E] but
[E]
[N] yeah
really take your time and just that kind of swampy feel that's what you want with it but
yeah slides cool I need to dive more into it and the more I dive into it I'll show you some more
ideas I don't want to just show you any old tack you know so anyway hope you've really done well
and hopefully this is helpful and you get something from it and yeah let me know in the comment
section below how you get on with it and also check out my website Mike Bradley music.com I've got
some lessons which are not on YouTube which you can find on there and of course head over to
Facebook and Instagram and like my favorite pages as well anyway guys hope you well love you all

on the 2nd string [Em]
[Am] and then hitting the 1st string [E] and letting them both ring out and
just give it a good vibrato side to side, alright [Eb] so you're kind of going back from
