The next guitar I have here is an Alhambra 9P, which we chose
to represent the $2,000 to $2,499 price range.
Founded in 1965, Alhambra is among the newer Spanish guitar companies,
and besides being a major player in the classical market,
it also offers steel string guitars and traditional Spanish instruments.
[C] Clearly a descendant of the Madrid school of building a large
and powerful guitar, the 9P measures almost 15 inches
across its lower bout, which is nearly an inch wider
than most classical guitars.
The guitar has a solid cedar top and solid Indian rosewood back and sides.
As you can see, the materials are high quality,
with the top being narrow grained and the back
and sides featuring a nice striping pattern and beautiful book matching.
On the inside, the guitar is built with very tall but thin back braces,
and while the top is braced in a traditional fan pattern,
it has a floating cross brace that only touches the top in a few places,
rather than being glued across its length.
Following the guitar's theme of being large in size,
it also has a substantial neck profile with a somewhat boxy shape.
The Alhambra 9P is made in Spain and has a street price of [A] just over $2,000.
Let's have a listen to Mark Simons playing it.
