Albert Lee on the Everly Brothers Reunion Concert 1983 chords
Start Jamming...
Yes, I was yeah had a long association with those guys.
I tell this story every night on stage
now, you know, I met them in 62 63 and
spent
Every time they came to England I'd go to see them whenever I could and if I could get backstage, you know
I'd say hello.
How are you doing?
And I was so pleased that they remembered me and
And then I eventually got to the States in must have been 70 with head hands and feet and
a good an old friend of mine Terry Slater was working at capital in the publishing company there and
he he was like best friends and still is best friend with
With Phil Everly, so I got to meet up with Phil a few times and he actually took me on my first trip to Disney and
so
There was always an association there and then when they then they broke up in 73 and then a little later on
I ran into Don Everly and he was a little standoffish because he knew that I was Phil's friend and
By this time they weren't talking to each other.
So I
Went along to a jam and I was invited along, you know
He called up Jerry Allison actually and said hey, come on out, you know, we got all these players and it's great fun
you'll love it, you know, so I went out there took my guitar and
Immediately I was Don's best friend.
So it and it went on from there, you know, they were just fantastic
[Cm] nights we play like once a week at this bar [G] in Calabasas not far from where I live now and
At any time at any night there, you know, it could be Buddy Emmons or Al Perkins on steel guitar
Doug Dillard on banjo Glen Campbell came out [Ab] there Bob Dylan [N] came out there
Just you never never knew who would come and it always had a the reputation of the place travel
It was a very small bar.
We never got paid, you know, we got some free beer
But if we were there for the for the music and it was just great fun, you know
So after that I toured with Don a little bit and I was singing Phil's part
I was an Evely brother for a while, you know
but always hope that if they got back together that I do at least one gig with the Avley brothers and lo and behold it was
1983 at the Royal Albert Hall
and to my surprise the following year we did an album and the US tour and
And did it for the next 25 years?
It's been a big part of my life
