_ So I was born and raised in Guatemala. _
_ _ _ It's okay if you don't know where that is.
It's, you know, where Mexico is, I'm sure.
It's right below Mexico.
It's Central America, _ not South America.
And _ I grew up listening and, well, really when I moved
to Los Angeles I gained a new appreciation
for old music from Latin America. _ _
Songs that I was well aware of growing up, _ _ but, you know,
for some reason you just don't appreciate it
as much when you're a kid.
But then later I realized what real gems these songs were.
_ _ Truly classics and just _ beautiful songs,
beautiful melodies. _
They really, you know, tug at your heartstrings.
And I want to do one of these songs for you guys.
I created a little medley of two songs in particular.
The first one is actually a song
that I believe is the very first song
that I ever learned how to sing.
_ I must have been five years old
and my grandmother taught me this little number.
And it's a really beautiful song
from the 1920s _ called Amapola.
And then the second song of the medley is a song that's,
I think, very famous throughout the world
because it's been translated to many different languages. _
Actually, the very first time I heard the song was
with Matt Kincaid singing it in Spanish, believe it or not.
He actually put out three albums of just Spanish language music.
And everyone throughout Latin America just loved it.
It was really successful. _ _
I believe it was because, you know, he had a really thick accent
when he sang in Spanish and people really loved that.
They found it quite charming.
_ _ So, yeah, it was pretty amazing that the first time
that I heard the song was with him, even though, of course,
it's been popularized by many, many,
many groups throughout Latin America.
And the song is called Quizás, Quizás, Quizás.
You might know it by its English version,
which is perhaps, perhaps, perhaps. _ _
And if you feel like joining in on the chorus, all you have to do is just sing
that word, quizás.
Pretty easy, right?
