[G] [A] [G] [A] The Birds [G] being a [A] unique band that we all [G] [Am] came out of folk [G] music.
[A] Bluegrass is
folk music.
So we all came out of an acoustic background and I got asked to
join the Birds and lied because they said, can you play the bass?
I said [G] yeah.
[Am] And I couldn't but I knew [Em] because I'd heard the couple of the guys sing I
said I knew something was special about it.
Then I went to the Guild.
Most of our major recordings I did on the Guild bass.
Turn, Turn, Turn, 8 Miles High Rock and Roll Star and various other [E] things.
I [A]
[E] always liked the strings flat wound.
This is what everybody used to use 50
years ago.
With these nice flat wound strings and they were so it was just
more of a sound of a smooth sound.
[Am] [D]
[F] [A] [G] [Em]
We played the Ed Sullivan Show which was
really interesting.
Being a live TV show and everybody in America watched that
show every Sunday night.
Religiously.
Every Sunday.
If you got an Ed Sullivan show
everybody would know that.
A cab driver in the street would know you were on the Ed Sullivan Show.
All the girls were running on the stage.
It was like the Beatles
movie Hard Day's Night.
A little bit of that you know it's fun.
[Am] [Em]
I don't think the Birds will ever get back together.
There's only three of us
left.
I think it's best left as a memory.
It's a really good memory of all five of us.
I've had a great time.
I've been a lucky guy.
I've been blessed.
I've gotten to do
all this.
So as long as I can sing [E] and play and people want to hear me I'll
continue to work.
