Don't you tell me that it wasn't meant to be
[C] Call it quit.
[F] Call it destiny
[Dm]
Just because [Gm] it won't come easily
[C] Doesn't mean we [F] shouldn't try.
[Am] [Bm] I started playing [C] guitar when I was seven years old.
[E] My dad plays guitar [D#] and
[F] They were always lying [A#] around the house.
So I used to pick his ones up.
They were too big for me
I couldn't reach the strings and [F#] then I
[Cm]
[Gm] got into jazz [F] around the age of
[C] 17 because my first [A#] girlfriend was a jazz singer and she showed me some
Jazz chords and it kind of blew my [Bm] mind and I ended up [C] going to study it and becoming a bachelor of jazz
Which is a real [D#] thing.
I [G] moved down to [A#] London
I really [D] wanted to play guitar for Elton John or [D#] Stevie Wonder or somebody like that
I was so [F] inspired by the energy of the [C] city, these different cultures and experiences [F] and the energy
I [A#] started writing songs and
Quickly realized that that [Bm] was [F#] what I wanted to do with my [A] life.
I had a recurring nightmare where [C] I couldn't leave my flat [F] every time I tried to get out the door
I would [D] realize that I hadn't got my trousers [A] on or my shoelaces were untied and I [C] realized that it [F] was
Because I hadn't [E] released any music [A] and I had 400 songs or something like that
On my laptop just [C] sitting there and I had one song finished which was wouldn't mean a thing [A] which was the first track
from the collection
[C] So I just thought [F] I'll put it out [C] and then just keep putting songs out [F#m] and do [A] them in the month themselves
And I made an album.
Hang [F] on.
It's not an [A#] album.
It's a collection of songs and
[G] It's [E] called a song for every moon [F] and because there [C] are 12 moon cycles in a year.
There [G] are 12 [F] songs on the collection
[C] [A]
[A] [C]
[A]
[C]
[F] [E] I
[Dm]
[A] [F] [A#]
[G] [C]
[F]
[B] Have this sort of duality between
Wanting to [F#] make music that is [B] as
musical and [E] soulful as the [B] Angelo and
[Em] Then also wanting to write songs that are as involved [E] in and sort of intelligent as [F#m] Randy Newman
Lyrically, [B] and I'm kind of trying to fuse them [B] together and then at the same time, I'm really [E] inspired by electronic music
[Em] artists like James Blake and Todd Terry a and [C#] I love Radiohead and [E] I
Think 90 [F#m]% of writing a song [B] is convincing yourself that what you're making isn't terrible
and I [E] think to have had some form of validation [F#] from [F#m] the [B] public has really
[G#m] Emboldened me [C#m] and given me a renewed
[E] confidence
[F] Enjoy in the writing [F#] process.
Take me
[E]
[G#m] Away to a [F#] silence I need take [E] me
[B]
[G#m] Away to a ghostly [F#] breeze I don't need to [C#m] build a house [D#m] of stone
[E] [Em] [A]
Call [B] home, so we're just you [F#] and me [F#] drink and
[E] [N]
