So, once again, this is one of my favorite Rich Malz lyrics.
The music is amazing in the song.
But I've listened to this song while driving across the parts of Kansas that he lived in,
[D] and he so perfectly captured the spirit of that part of the world.
But once again, there are lyrics and there's imagery in this song that just astonishes
me as a songwriter.
Because they're beautiful on their own, and then when you think about it, they unfold
themselves to you.
And so the one that I can point out is the one where he talks about, I can feel the earth
tremble beneath the rumbling of the buffalo hooves, and there's fury in a pheasant's wing.
And it tells me the Lord is in his temple and there's still a faith that can make the mountains move.
So he rhymed hooves and move, which is awesome.
But the fact that the imagery is of buffaloes stampeding across the plains, and the earth
is trembling, and then he talks about there's still a faith that can make the mountains move, right?
Well, the moon moved past Nebraska and spilled laughter on them cold Dakota [Bm] hills.
The angels [A] danced on [Em] Jacob's stairs.
Yeah, they danced [A] on Jacob's stairs.
And [D] there is this silence in the badlands and over Kansas.
The whole [Bm] universe was stilled by the whisper of a [Em] prayer.
By the whisper [A] of a prayer.
And the [G] single hawk burst into flight and in the east, the whole [A] horizon is in [D] flames.
[G] I feel the thunder in the [D] sky, see the sky about to rain.
I can hear the prairies calling out your name.
I can feel the earth tremble beneath the rumbling of the buffalo [Bm] hooves.
There's fury in a [A] [Em] pheasant's wings.
There's fury [A] in a pheasant's wings.
And it [D] tells me the Lord is in his temple.
And there is still a faith that can make [Bm] the mountains move.
And a love that can make the [Em] heavens ring.
Now I've seen love [A] make heaven ring.
[G] Where the sacred rivers meet beneath the shadow of the [A] keeper of the [D] plains.
And I feel the thunder in [Bm] the sky, see the sky [G] about to rain.
And I can hear the [D] prairies calling out your name.
Oh, oh, oh, [Bm] oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
[D] Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
Oh, oh, [Bm] oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
[D] From the place where morning gathers, you can look sometimes [Bm] forever till you see.
What time [Am] may [Em] never know.
What time [A] may never know.
How [D] the Lord takes by its corners this old world and shakes us [Bm] forward.
And he shakes us free to run [A] wild with [Em] the hope.
So let's run [A] wild with this hope.
The [G] hope that this thirst will not last long.
That it will soon drown [A] in a song not sung in [G] vain.
I feel the thunder in the [Bm] sky, see the sky [G] about to rain.
I can hear the [D] prairies calling out your name.
I [G] know this thirst will not last long.
It will soon drown in [A] a song not sung in vain.
I feel the thunder in [G] the sky, see the sky about to rain.
And with the prairies, [A] I am calling [D] out your name.
