Hi everybody, this is Andy Timmons for [D] Guitar Player TV, and we're going to discuss a little bit today [B] about
How I went about recording some songs on the resolution CD from the Favorite Nations label [E] released last year in May of 2006
[Gb] We made a decision early on in the recording process [E] to only use one guitar track on each song
so without any rhythm guitars or any any backing keyboards or
other instruments it put a lot of responsibility on the guitar to
Not only play the melody but to also support it quarterly because all it would be would be drums and bass at any given moment
So I thought it would be [Em] kind of fun to
[E] Play a couple of those chord melody examples from the record and [D] talk a bit about
How I came about the melody and chords so here we go that this is [Eb] a track called gone
off the CD [E] and
[Em] I'll play the intro for you
[Cm]
[C] [Am] [C]

[E] The subject matter and the day the song was written is the day that everybody remembers of course it was a 9-11 2001 and
[Am] Sometimes there's pieces of instrumental music [Gb] that are purely
You know maybe just an inspired jam or a cool lick [E] happens
But then [Am] there's there's a lot of a lot of tunes that I've written that are [E] very specific reactions to
You know [Eb] it's things going on in life
And I obviously that day was a heavy day for the world and continues to be
I happen to be on the road with a living Newton John
At the time and we were on a [D] tour bus heading down the road that morning as this thing was unfolding
on CNN in front of everybody
And I just [F] remember I had a guitar in [E] my hands as we were all trying to absorb this this tragedy
And I literally don't remember writing the song, but the song just kind of came at that moment
[A] And so I knew that I didn't know if [D] I'd actually recorded for a record or anything.
I just wanted [E] to
Document the feeling of that time and that's and that's what happened
[A] And so it's basically I was state of melody [E] and then I figured out how I was going to place the harmony underneath it
the first chord being an a minor 7 flat 5
[A] [F]
[A] [C] diminished chord [Am] leading into G [Bb] minor
[Am] [Bb]
[A] [E] [A]

[D] [Gm] It's just a series of two fives really

And [E] so as I was playing that I think that the the harmony just kind of came to me in my head
I what would support it best
Then after that the second half I just basically shifts it up the octave
