[G] [A] [C]
[D] [G]
[A] [C]
[D] [N] Hey, what's up guys?
I'm back to do another lesson.
This time for As Tears Go By.
[C#] There are, let's see, four chords [G] in the main part.
[A] G [C] A C [D] D.
[D] That's in the main verses.
[F#] He's going to be playing [G] those chords.
[A]
But there are many, [E] a lot of different [D] little things you could throw in [A] to [D] change it each
time as you're [G#] doing it.
And I think that's what he does.
The main, if you wanted to play it the way [G] he does, note for note, I believe, well, the
first time he's playing it, the progression, he's going to play the G chord like this.
[C#] You're not going to have your pinky [G#] on the high E.
[N] You're just going to play the G chord
like this with your first two [E] fingers covering the bass notes and your ring finger is going
to be on the [G] third fret of the B string.
And you want to play that bass note first and then play from the B string.
Switch to the [A] A.
[A] You want to play, pick through the notes on the A chord first, and then you're going to
add your [D] ring finger [C#] and lift [G#] it off.
[A]
And [F#] your ring finger is going to go [G] right [D#] underneath your barred first finger on the
third fret [D] of the B string.
[G#]
[C] Switch to the C.
[D]
And he does [D#] this a lot during the song with [C#] the C chord.
You're going [C] to [D] [Em] play the notes [F#] in the chord first [C] and [D] [C#] you're going to add your pinky underneath
your first finger [E] and then hit that note [C] along with the high E string.
[D]
And the D, you're going to, you're going to, okay with the D you want to, you're going
to hit the D string, G and B [B] and you're going to hit the [C#] open high E and then add your second
[D] finger like that.
Okay?
And [N] then when you go back to play the chords a second time around, you might do it a little
bit different like [G] this.
And [A]
[C] [D]
[G] [A]
[C] [D]
then [B] when he's singing the part, all I [G] hear, you're going to switch to C.
[C]
[D] [C] Switch from [D] C to D.
[G] Then you're going to go to a G.
[F#m] [E] You're going to go from, you're going to walk down [G] from the G, [F#] [Em]
play an E minor, [G] [Em]
[G] [C] back to
C and [Em] [D]
[A] then you're going to go [G#] back to the main [G] chords.
[F] And this little lick here that [G] I'm doing, I'm going to play bass note and then you're
going to hit [D] the D, [G] D [D] and G string
[Bm] and on the G string you're going to add your [N] second
finger and then lift it [G] off.
[D]
And then hit the open B [G] string.
[D] [A]
And a little trick [E] when you're switching to the A [F] chord, you can add your ring finger
[C#] to the fourth fret of the A [C#m] string [A] like that [G] [C#m]
[A] [D] and you're going to, when you're switching
to the C chord, you could walk into it [F#] from the second fret, [C] second fret of the A string
and you could lift your [B] second finger [D] off of the D string and [C] add it back on.
I mean, [C#m] you know, there [C#] are a million little tricks that Keith does like this as the song goes on.
I mean, there are only [F] four chords really in the main part of this but [N] he's switching
it up every time.
I mean, [C#] and then when you're coming back to the [G] G chord, you can walk [C#] down into that from
the second fret [G] also.
[A]
[C] [D]
[C#] And I mean, there are different ways you can [G] play the [D] chords each time [G] you go.
That's the beauty of it.
You just [E] kind of have to, you [Bm] have to know your way around the [G#m] notes in each chord a little bit.
[G]
[A] [C#m] [B] [C]
[D]
[G#] But [N] that's everything.
That's the main chords, the chorus.
I believe that's everything.
There's [E] really not much [G] to the song as far as the chords.
I mean, so hopefully that [D]
gives you a good idea about how to play the song.
