Chords for Auld Lang Syne, the meaning of

[F] [Bb] Anyways, this is the moment right now, the [Gm] moment of peace on this planet, [F] because we
just had Christmas [Gm] and we're just [F] about to have New Year and I'm trying to, I am spreading
the message that Scottish [C] people [F] have the message of [Gm] peace because every year we sing
[F] a song that is about peace.
[Bb] I've told this story [F] before, [Bb] Penny's [Fm] over Mike, but it bears
telling again, and it's the story of Auld Lang Syne, [C] which is [G] the song that we all sing
in this moment.
[Gb] It's on December [Gm] 31st, a few days to come, but you get the feeling.
And
the story of Auld Lang Syne, the back story is actually a very interesting [Bb] story because
the song was presented to the world by this 18th century Scottish poet, Robert Burns,
and here's how the story came about.
He had [Bbm] correspondence with a [Gm] benefactor of his by
the name of, [Bb] a lady by the name of Mrs.
Dunlop, and she [N] wrote him, she told him about how
she had a meeting coming, she had planned to meet an old _ man, they were children, and
in the meantime they'd fallen out, they'd had arguments and spats and things like that,
they were no longer friends, but now this moment had come when they were going to meet.
_ _ The correspondent, [Bb] she wrote back and said, well, you know, _ it's fine, we decided [Eb] that
we were just going to [D] let, _ _
_ _ [E] _ _ _ and he wrote back and he said, you know, that's a great story,
and he said, well, the subject of making up and letting bygones be bygones,
old Scottish phrase, Auld Lang Syne, quite appropriate in this occasion,
because he loved researching these [D] things, and he remembered the phrase, he remembered
hearing it [E] in a song, he remembered hearing it in other songs, and he put together all
these little scraps, all these little pieces of old Scottish songs, added some of his own,
and he presented to the world the song Auld Lang Syne as a message of peace,
because it told the story of the history.
After a long time, it went bygones be [Eb] bygones, and they'd been friends.
Now at peace, he came to remind [F] everybody.
Well, [Bb] I take this opportunity to remind everybody that Auld Lang Syne is a [Fm] song about peace,
and I've married that [Eb] song with another great song about [E] peace, which was presented
to the world, I [Eb] believe, by John Lennon, called [Bb] Give Peace a Chance.
