Avril Lavigne - Don't Tell Me Live on HBO The Record chords
Start Jamming...
We turn now to a young performer whose second album, Under My Skin, hit stores this week.
It's 19-year-old Avril Lavigne.
Your first CD, Let [E] Go, a couple of years [A#] ago.
A young [D#] person can change quite a bit between [F] 17 and 19.
[A] In your own words, how are you different now, and therefore how is Under My Skin [D#] different from Let Go?
[F#]
I mean, when I was 16 I was living in a small town in [G#] Napanee, Ontario, in Canada.
[F] And I hadn't seen much of the world, I had gone to very many places,
and since then I've now experienced so much, like traveling the world,
and it definitely caused me to grow up really quickly.
And I just feel a lot older in some ways.
You know, I had a similar experience.
When I was 16, I was just sitting around hoping [F#] my face would clear up and the [E] greasers wouldn't kick my ass.
[F]
And that's the kind of angst that leads to great songwriting, I think.
The song you're [D#] going to do, Don't Tell Me, [F#] I've read various interpretations of it.
[F] You're the one [N] who wrote it and sings it.
Is it an abstinence song or is it a song of independence, saying, hey, I'll decide, I'm in control?
Yes, it's just a song about being strong and not letting someone pressure you into doing something you don't want to do.
And I think it's really hard for girls, especially now, these days,
like even younger girls, I think, have a lot of pressures to deal with.
All right, so it's Avril Lavigne, folks, Don't Tell Me.
Nice to meet you.
Thank you very much.
Looking forward to watching you perform.
And as she heads over there to do it, this is the new CD.
It's out just this week.
Avril Lavigne, Under My Skin.
And the first single from this CD is called Don't Tell Me.
Here she is, Avril Lavigne.
[E]
You held my hands and walked [B] me home.
[E]
Why you gave me that kiss?
It was something [B] like this that made me go oh, [E] oh.
You wiped my tears, got rid of all [B] my fears.
Why did you have to go?
Guess it wasn't enough to take some of my love, guys, it's so hard to trust.
Well, [A] did I not tell you [C#m] that I'm not like that girl, the [A] one who gives it [B] away?
[C#m]
Did you think that I [A] was going to give [E] it up to you this [B] time?
[C#m]
Did you think [C#] that it was something I [E] was going to tell?
[B] [C#m]
Don't try to [C#] tell me [E] what to do.
Don't try to [B] tell me what to [F#]
say.
You're better off [B] that way.
[E]
Don't think that you're charming.
The fact that [B] your arm is now around [E] my neck will get you in my [C#m] pants.
I'll have to kick [B] your ass, make you never [A] forget.
[E] I'm gonna ask you to [C#m] stop.
I thought I liked [B] you a lot, but I'm really [A] upset.
I'm really upset.
So get out of my [C#m] head.
Get off of [B] my bed.
Yeah, that's what [E] I said.
Well, [A] did I not tell you that [C#m] I'm not like that girl, the [A] one who throws it all [B] away?
[C#]
Did you [C#m] think that I was [A] going to give it [E] up to you this [B] time?
[C#m]
Did you think [C#] that it was something I was going [E] to tell?
[B] [C#m]
Don't try to [C#] tell me what [E] to do.
Don't try to [B] tell me what [F#] to say.
You're better off [B] that way.
[A] You're a skeleton that put me on.
[G#]
[A] Messed me up, [E] done no [F#] wrong.
Thoughts of you and me have gone away.
[B] [C#]
Did you think that [G#] I was going to [E] give it up to you this [B] time?
[C#m]
Did you think that [E] it was something I was going to tell?
[B] [C#m]
Don't try to [A] tell me [E] what to do.
Don't try to [B] tell me what [A] to say.
You're better off [B] that way.
You're better off [A] that way.
You're better off that way.
[B]
Thank [N] you.
Thank you, guys.
Before we go, who wins the Stanley Cup finals, Calgary or Tampa Bay?
I have no idea.
You're all Canadians, right? Maple Leafs.
I don't think the Maple Leafs have a shot at it, really.
All right, Calgary is the consensus.
So thanks to Avril Lavigne.
