[Eb] This is Uncle Mark in the mothership [F] with a three string shovel guitar.
I am tuned [G] in G, open G, so G, E, G.
I'm also playing here through this little
cube.
I am on the wreck to fire setting
which is right here.
So, oops, there it is.
[Eb] It's right here
on the setting and it actually says
R fire stack.
So that's what I'm at.
No other effects.
I'm just on that with
the [G] gain at about 10 o'clock.
So that's me open.
This tune right here is Bad to the Bone.
George Thorogood.
I did
a video of this the other day.
It's pretty simple.
It uses some
palm [C] muting though.
[Eb] So it does that kind of palm muting.
So you're going to [G] leave your palm here.
It also [E] uses two chords, B [Bb] flat
and C.
[C] There's [G] C.
You can see them [C] right there.
And there's [Bb] B flat.
[E] There's B [G] flat.
And I kind of do this.
I kind of tap the strings.
The day I was born, the nurses gathered round,
gazing why wonder at the child they found.
Head nurse spoke up,
leave this one alone.
They could tell right away
I'm bad to the bone.
[C] [Gm] [G] That's
[N] the whole song folks.
It's pretty easy.
A couple of things that I do.
I will do the palm muting [G] part
through the lyrics and [C] then when I get to Bad to the Bone, I don't.
[B] I kind of
[C]
slide up [G] to the [Bbm] C, [G] B flat, G.
[Bb] [G] So [N] what it does is it kind of changes what I'm doing lyrically
through the [Ab] lyrics and through the chorus.
So through the lyrics,
[G]
I'm just doing the, [Bb] all [G] [G]
[N] right, so I'm just doing the palm [Gm] muting and I'm doing the
[G] C, B flat.
[Ab] So this is just fifth [C] fret, third fret stuff.
You're gonna have to
get used to finding out where those [G] notes are on your
guitar.
So [E] that's something to work on.
Also
[Cm] tapping.
[Gm]
[G]
And then when I get into the chorus,
I just strum away.
[C] [F] So it's easy to strum away.
It's easy to
work that like that.
So you're really
hitting it hard and you're just freaking strumming.
[Ab] And then in the lyrics, you're back to the palm [G] muting.
[Em] And I'm just palm muting here.
Something to get used to.
A couple little
tricks I do.
I come up to the 12th fret, which is about here.
You see there's
two little screws.
That gives me a very close proximity, not
exactly, but a close proximity of where I want to [G] be.
So I can,
[Db] right, so I can [Eb] slide up and I suggest sliding up to these
to [G] these notes.
That way, you know, you know
exactly where to come instead of trying to hit it dead on.
You can slowly work your way up and go,
[Ab] that's too [G] high.
Get used to where your [N] thumb is in relation.
Okay, you've got this spot where it breaks from the wood to the steel.
And when your thumb comes up and hits that, you can get an idea of where you're
at.
So if your hand is like so, mine kind of
hits the palm at about here.
So I come [Gm] up.
There it [Em] is and it hits there.
And that's how I notice where I'm
at.
[Gm] It really helps me figure out where I'm at on a guitar.
If I hit it, slide past it, come to here where this little dot is, there's a
B flat and a C right [B] here.
[C] [Db] [N] Right, that's what I look for.
There's also a little section where I
go.
[G] [N]
[G]
[N] [G] And all I'm doing is just kind of
picking that that low G string.
[Gb]
[G]
[N] [G]
[N] You know, it's a pretty simple little
tune, but it's really fun and dynamic if you change it up.
Like I [G] said, using
the palm muting through the lyrics.
And when you get to Bad to the Bone,
Bad to the Bone, Bad to the Bone.
The louder and nasty it is,
the better it sounds.
[N] [G]
And that's how you play Bad to the Bone
on a three string shovel guitar.
It's three chords.
It's C, B flat, and G
open.
Boom.
And this is Uncle Mark in the
Mothership.
How to play Bad to the Bone.
