I'm out here for a pretty fair CD, been listening to it there, hope you've all bought one now.
Have you all bought one?
You're not allowed to leave the tent until you've bought one.
Erm, okay, er, [F#] 19, no, 2003.
[A] I think, yeah, a lot of, erm, years with the fiddle fair,
[Dm] erm, you get, somebody [A] tells you, you know, some musician come and they tell [A#] you about this other musician [A] that you should check out.
[C] And that's kind of how a lot [E] of bands, erm, came to Baltimore and one particular instance was Kevin Burke, [F#] our uncle, who's going [A] to be playing here on Sunday.
Erm, he lives [E] in Portland, Oregon now and he played at the fiddle fair several [G] times but one [G] time he said to me,
[A] you should check out [Bm] this band called the [E] Foghorn String Band, [B] from Portland, Oregon.
So we [Am] duly checked them out and decided [E] to, er, invite them to the fiddle fair [F#] in 2003.
Er, they'd never been to Ireland before, erm, so there was five of them that time, [E] five guys, and they landed, [G] erm, Shannon or [N] somewhere.
And, er, they rented a van, big old van, and they drove down to Baltimore on a Monday, I think they were playing on a Tuesday.
[C#] And they got as far as Bandon and [F#] they ran out of fuel so they pulled into a garage [E] and they filled it up [B] with unleaded petrol.
And, er, the band didn't [F#] start because it was a diesel van.
[F] So, erm, [E] we got a phone call about three o'clock in the morning from a taxi driver with a real heavy [C] Cork accent.
[A] He said, is that McCartney's?
[Gm] And I said, yeah.
He said, [D#] have you got a band outside [B] here?
So [A#m] we opened the door anyway and in walked the Foghorn String Band.
[A] And, er, within about ten minutes [D] I'd say, they were playing [G#] tunes and drinking [A] pints.
And, er, ever since then they've been back here many, [E] many times.
[Am] [E]
And this other gentleman who is here with them tonight has also been here several times.
The first time he played in the bar he brought a [F#] few other musicians from Louisiana.
And he spent a [G] Cajun night on a Tuesday night in the [F#] fiddle fair in 2000 and something.
Two, [N] I think.
And one of the most memorable nights we've ever had at the festival.
I remember people were just dancing on the tables.
So, they are our favourite band in the whole [G] wide world.
Please welcome [N] the Foghorn String Band and Bert Powell.
