Basic Minor Chords on Guitar - C minor (Cm) chords
Start Jamming...
[Cm]
So generally there's a couple of different ways of [G] playing a C minor
Generally the most common way to do it for acoustic guitar players is in this position here
Place your first finger on the first string third fret
Second finger goes on the second string fourth fret
Your third finger goes on the fourth string fifth fret and then your pinky goes on the third string fifth fret
You're just playing the top [C] top four strings
Fifth and sixth strings are not played so you can just avoid them
Or if you can manage to wrap your thumb around enough there you can mute them
So they don't play [G] if you accidentally hit them
[Cm] Or it sounds like that
Now the better way [Bm] at least in my opinion to play this is using a bar chord
And this is something if you haven't already started moving into it
You really should start moving into bar chords as soon as possible
with a bar chord
You're laying your first finger across all six strings although for this particular chord
I'm just laying it across the first five strings, and I'm laying the very tip of this finger
Just touch that sixth string so that it doesn't play
[Bb] [Cm] And I'm placing my second finger on the second string fourth fret my third finger
Goes on the fourth string fifth fret and my pinky goes on the third string fifth fret
And then you're playing just the top five strings
The advantage here is you get to hear your bass note your root note rather than playing it like this
You're hearing that
Now the advantage with bar chords
Is that you can move [Dbm] them up and [Dm] down the [Ebm] fretboard with [Cm] ease [Bm] [Bbm] and [Cm]
they sound a?
Lot more full than just trying to play the top four string
You'll get this kind of sound instead
So I'm going to do here is we're going to play a song
That's just got a few chords in it.
We've got a C minor [Dm] a
D minor [E] [Eb]
and
an E flat and
[Cm] These are all going to be bar chords
So [Dm] [Eb]
[Dm] [Cm]
just basically [Ab] try practicing along with the video first and then [Cm] once you get a handle on
Mostly this chord here because this is the one we're covering but [E] also the [Eb] D minor and the E flat
Try going on to the jam track and let it loop for you while you practice all three of these chords and practice doing bar
chords between [Cm] all three of them
