[E] The Paul McCartney experience was really fun, really cool because like everybody else I'd
grown up on his music and I was a fan.
I just got this really mysterious email asking if I was available on such and such a date.
Diana Krall wants to know if you are available to do this thing on such and such a date at Capital Studios.
It will be you and Diana if you can make it and Jeff [N] Hamilton and Anthony Wilson and a
guest.
They wouldn't say who it was.
I wrote back and said I'm okay for those dates.
They said great, we'll tell you more about it as we find out.
No mention of this on your Facebook.
You can't email anybody about it.
No cameras allowed.
All this stuff.
I was like whoa, what's going on?
So then as time went on I had my suspicions about I wonder if and sure enough I walked
into the studio and they still hadn't told us in Walt Paul McCartney.
He was so amazing.
First of all he was chill.
He really was a people person and knows how to make everybody feel good.
I also [Eb] ended up doing some other things with him [N] that were related to the recording.
I did a few songs on the studio recording and then I did an entire live record with
him of the same material.
After the first day, every time I'd see him in the studio he would walk up to me and give
me this big hug.
This was like an unsolicited hug from Paul McCartney to start your day.
That's okay.
It was kind of like that.
But he really knows how to chill.
I remember Jeff Hamilton playing.
First of all, we're honored to be on this.
It's a big deal for us and we want to do the best we can.
I remember Jeff was in his drum booth and Paul McCartney said, yeah I'm looking for
something on this one.
[Gb]
[F] Whatever it was at some point Jeff said, and you know how well I know Jeff Hamilton.
So for him to even make a suggestion to Paul McCartney about a groove or an idea on this
song, there's a whole process inside before he can get to that.
So finally he works up to the whatever and he says, Paul what do you think about brushes
on this one?
And Paul goes, uh no I think I want you to stay with sticks.
And Jeff went, okay, okay, alright, sure, okay.
And Paul, I'm always the bass player in the middle, right?
I see what's going on.
So I saw Paul react to Jeff and he just sort of, he kind of got really quiet, pursed his
lips and that was it.
And the next time he had any kind of words with Jeff Hamilton, it was lighthearted.
It was, you know, it was chill the situation out.
He didn't want Jeff to feel uncomfortable or stressed or any kind of way, but totally
[Ebm] relaxed and he knew how to do it.
And that's the first time in all the years I've been working with Jeff Hamilton in a
lot of recording situations and live shows, first time I've ever seen anybody [D] know how
to handle him.
And that was the first day he'd encountered Jeff Hamilton.
So I, you know, I bow down to Paul McCartney for a number of reasons, but he gets [F] my
