[F] What's going on?
This is Caleb from Beartooth, you're watching Rock Sound.
[Bb] It's like a holy [Dm] night, when my grip is lost.
I still feed my [F] insecurity on that [C] elder [Bb] cost.
[N] Hey, it's James Russell-Taylor here from Rock Sound.
Join now from Beartooth.
Caleb Shomer, how are you?
Hello!
I'm good, I'm good.
Yeah.
Welcome back to the UK.
Very, very nice to see you.
We're very excited about this new album of yours, you know that, right?
Thank you.
We're very, very hyped for it.
We've heard a few tracks already, of course.
For fans who are highly anticipating it,
what else can they expect from what they've not heard?
There's a lot of variety on this record.
I think it's the most diverse kind of album we've had,
at least that's what a lot of people have been saying when they listen to it.
And, I don't know, there's a little bit of everything.
There's like some heavy metal,
there's some rock and roll, there's like a, pretty much just like a,
sounds like a pop-punk song from 2001, I don't know.
There's a lot of stuff on here.
Hang on, we're going to pause on that one.
There's a pop-punk song from 2001 vibe.
It kind of sounds like it, yeah.
The inspiration came from a producer, actually, a guy named Jerry Finn,
who produced the original Blink records and some of my favourite records,
and I was writing with a dude, and we were just kind of listening to that stuff,
and it ended up kind of taking that vibe.
But the song Believe, I think it's like track nine.
But I don't know, we got it all on there.
And then after that, it's just like some heavy metal song,
I don't know.
We're just throwing a hillbilly.
It sounds like you were kind of up for twisting sounds around and experimenting a little bit.
Yeah, yeah.
Well, I mean, for me, with the Beartooth stuff,
it's just kind of whatever I'm feeling at the moment, really.
And I tried to really make sure about that while I was making this record,
like not get [Em] myself stuck in a box, you know.
You were quoted, of course, recently as well, you described this album as your masterpiece.
Yeah.
Why?
I just think it's, to me, I am 110 [F]% content with [B] it.
And whereas, I [Em]
think every record you make in life, and just in general,
there's [B] always stuff you're like, ah, I should have done that when you listen back to it.
I mean, the record's been done for months, and every time I've listened back,
I'm just like, yeah, this was the best record I could possibly make.
Whether it is a masterpiece or not, I have no idea.
That's up to anybody else.
But for me, it is a masterpiece.
It's exactly what I set out to do, and I'm just really happy with it.
Excited to hear the rest of it, man.
Really, really excited.
So what are the aims then, as this new record comes out?
What are the aims moving forward for 2018, 2019?
We got some real big stuff coming up that we haven't announced yet, but it's just touring.
And I think we're going to do a lot more headlining, just so we can play our full show, you know.
Yeah, we have a massive headline tour in the States.
As in massive, I'd mean long.
It's like 69 working days for our crew or something.
Wow.
That's a hell of a tour, man.
It's a long one, but we're doing that.
And then we might be coming back at some [E] point.
I [Bbm] can't say [N] confirmed or not.
We're hoping so.
But yeah, we'll be around, and we're going to try and just tour more places.
We want to go to Asia, we want to go to Russia, anywhere we can go play a show, we're going to give it a shot.
It's exciting, man.
It's really exciting to hear.
Speaking of touring, last time we chatted was Warped Tour.
We were talking about the final kind of Warped Tours and all your years on there.
Final day, how was that for you?
Because you sounded like it was going to be an emotional experience.
I cried, absolutely.
I cried on stage like a baby.
But it was great.
It was crazy to see how many people came to that last one.
And I don't know, it was very supporting, and just the vibe was perfect.
It was just your classic Warped Tour, and that's all I could ever want, you know.
It's lovely to hear, man.
Caleb, it's always really, really nice to talk to you.
We're looking forward to seeing you back in the UK, seeing other chords here on the album.
Appreciate it.
Caleb Shummer.
