Well, howdy folks, my name is Tony Thomas and I'm back with you again here on YouTube
Gonna show you some beginners old-time banjo.
I call it as easy as one two three and
Today we're gonna work on an old hymn called amazing grace and I'll show you the chord pattern
You get make sure your [G] banjo is tuned in the [E] open G
Tuning which consists of if you strum your banjo open you're in [G] a G
Perfect G.
Oh you count down one two, three, four five frets and you bar [C] it
You got [D] a perfect C.
You go down two more which is six seven [D] frets
You bar it you got a perfect D
[G]
Okay, your G
[C] C
D
[G] Then there's one other chord that I got to show you what you don't where it's called an E minor
It's a simple chord to make you take your index finger.
You note it on your second fret fourth string [E] and
Your middle finger [Em] second fret first string.
You've got a perfect
E minor
[G]
[Em] Then you've got [G]
G
[C] C
[D] D and
[Em] E minor and you [G] can play this with picks or without picks
And we're gonna go through it with you without the picks and [E] we're gonna show you a couple of little pick tricks here in a
Minute to that you might find beneficial to you.
But first we're gonna start out with amazing great
open G
Amazing grace
[C] How sweet are you see [G] the sound that saved a wretch [D] like me
There's your D
[G] I once was lost
[C] See how [G] I'm found here's your E minor [Em] was blind
but now [D] I
[G] See ever sure D there.
I'm gonna call out the chords as I do this
Amazing grace
[C]
C [G] G
G
G G
[D] B
[D] [G] G G G
[C] C [G] C C
[Em] E minor E minor
[G] B G
There's your chords.
I saw them out for you.
Your chord changes.
Okay, I told y'all would show you some simple little
Techniques you [E] probably didn't know about you can do this with [G] picks too.
I'm gonna put on the finger picks and the old thumb pick
[Bb] I'm gonna [D] show you how to do this using your picks and
Like I said, this is very essential for you to learn
[G] This type of music for the simple reason you'll be learning how to play by year
[E] And that's something that you [D] need to learn how to do is to play by year if you're ever gonna play with groups or play
With bands or even to a company yourself.
I mean tablature is good or reading music [Bm] sign
I've got nothing against it
But you need to learn how to play by [E] year if you if you're ever gonna play with bands or groups or whatever
Okay, I got the three picks on here the [Gb] thumb pick and of course
I got a pick on my index and one on my middle finger.
[G] Okay, amazing, right?
[Em] man
[G] How [C] sweet
[G] A sound that saved a wretch like [D] me
[G]
I once was lost but [C] now [G]
I'm found
[Em] Was blind but [G] now I see
Always [B] remember on that and when you [D] come up [Em] was blind you hit that E minor there.
Okay, [G] let me show you another
Little pick trick I call here a lot of people are not aware of this at all, but it's very very easy to do
Gonna use the guitar pick or the plectrum pick.
It's a [Ab] plectrum style
It's what old-time [F] banjo players hit was [E] quite common years ago and it still isn't some types [C] of music
It's the [G] plectrum style.
We're gonna go over the plectrum style
Amazing grace [C] how sweet the [G] sound
that saved a
Wretch like [D]
me
I once was lost
[C] But now [G] I'm found
[Em] Was blind [G] but now I see
Okay, I'm gonna show you how to pick a little bit of melody here using the [E] plectrum pick
[G]
[B]
[C] [Em]
[G]
[D]
[G]
[C] [Bm]
[Em] [Bm] [D]
[G] It's almost if I was using a [Em] three-finger roll [G] using that plectrum style
Which is a form of what they call cross picking it's very easy to master
[D] I
[E] hope you've picked up something from what I'm trying to get across [G] to you and I hope it
enhances your abilities
But anyway, I'll [E] be back at a later date with more as easy as one two, three beginner banjos
Course and God [G] bless.
Take care
