[Dm] There we go Wow hold [Eb] on okay, so that was from [D] the album the runner I [Gm] had already recorded
[Dm] the runner
[Eb]
as an album [Dm] a few months before but there [G] weren't any singles I [Dm] got a lot of grief
[Eb] That there weren't any singles, [D] so I went back to writing and a whole pile of [G] new songs [F] came out
[Eb]
Four new ones
[D] [Gm] Two of which got covered one by Bon Jovi [F] and one by
[Eb]
Santana [Bb] hold on it was [D] covered by Santana.
It was an odd song for [G] me because
[Dm]
[Eb] I it came out [D] fairly quickly.
I loved the chord structure.
I wrote it on [F] piano and
[Eb] I loved the sound of [A] the chord [D] structure.
It was just [G] something kind of engaging about [F] that
[Bb] But I was never happy with the [D] lyric so I tried it
I tried to get more [Eb] philosophical, and I went back and tried to [F] rewrite the lyrics and
[Gb]
[Gm] Finally [Bb] my wife just [Eb] said don't be an idiot that [Bb] song makes me feel good
Because I [Dm] wasn't gonna put it on the record.
I wasn't gonna [C] let anybody hear it
so [Eb] I would really like to thank my wife for [F] that because
[D] The Santana cover of course helped [Gm] pave the driveway
[F] [Eb] so that was a
[Bb] Really [Dm]
kind of a shake-up for me [C] and that I
[Gm]
Was getting ready [Dm] to chuck something out that
[Eb]
Was gonna do [A] so well for me.
[D] What was [Gm] great fun about [Dm] hold on as well though [Eb] was
I worked with the [C] great [D] Jorn Anderson on drums [G] and Peter Cardinale [Dm] who would later become part of my [Eb] band the boomers and
[Dm] And Peter [Gm]
Cardinale who just conducted
[F] And [Bb] it's an arrangement for this a life and song CD that I've [D] just finished with full orchestra so
[Eb] our relationship as [F] musicians
[Gb]
Began and I guess that was [Gm] 1980
[Eb] The summer of 1980 we [Bb] recorded that it was just Peter [Dm] myself and [Bb] Jorn Anderson
It was just three [Eb] pieces of [F] rhythm section for the bed [D] tracks
I was on piano [Gm] and
Jorn on drums Peter [Eb] on bass and
[Bb] When that song came [F] out we crossed the country
[C] As
[Gm] the Ian Thomas band [Dm] and it was [A] a wonderful band [Gm] in those days
[Cm] Lou [G] Pomani was on keys and
[Gm] [G] Steve Hogg did the tour [Gm] with me on bass and [C] Peter Mueller on guitar John [Gm] Panchishian on sax and
[G] Percussion and Marty Corddry on [Gm] drums
It was a [G] great band.
We played [Gm] SC TV
My brother's TV show Dave Thomas and this song we played it on [C] SC TV
[Gm] and of course it went all over [Dm] into the US as my version [Eb] and
[Am] I
Believe that is [Gm] when Santana picked it [Dm] up.
They had heard it [Eb] on SC TV and
[C] And
[D] [Gm]
And that's [Dm] Peter doing the pops on the end [Eb] he had that whole thing down
It [Am] was very big with [A] you know a lot of funk bang bands and [Dm] in those days
[Eb]
so
That's how [C] the whole [D] cover thing came out.
So I want to thank my brother for getting me on SC TV and
Playing hold on boy that song bring that brings back a lot of memories for me
