Hi [Gm] everyone, I'm here to share some stories with you about Romantic Traffic.
[C]
[Cm] [Gm] Bass riff there
[Cm] [C]
[Cm] is actually supposed to be piano, [Gm] but Nile decided, [Eb] no, we're going to make that bass.
[Gm] And the interesting thing about [Cm] that is through Nile, [Gm] the bass I play [Eb] today is the Spector [Gm] bass,
and it was because Bernard [Cm] Edwards from Sheep was playing it, and [Gm] he brought it into the studio.
Because when we went [Eb] down to the power station in New York [Gm] to do Romantic Traffic and Tell No [Cm] Lies,
we didn't bring our [Gm] instruments with us, so he said, oh, we'll just [Eb] provide it for you.
So Bernard [F] brought in a pink Spector bass, the only one at the time, and I got to play that on the [Bb] song, and it was great.
[F] [C] Also, we got to [G] punch up [Bb] the production, because we got [F] to use David Bowie's people that he [C] used,
the brass section, [G] which is the Aubrey Jupe brass section, and [Cm] the Sims Brothers do the background [Gm] vocals.
And [Eb] again, to get the echo sound, like, [Gm] power station in New York is all these [Cm] levels,
and Nile [Gm] would put his car in on the [Eb] ground level, and it would come up an [G] elevator, and his Lamborghini would come in.
So there we are [Cm] doing our background vocals [Gm] with Lamborghini [Eb] behind us while we were doing our [Gm] doot-doot-doots.
[Cm] But the thing is with [Gm] the doot-doots is Gorda [Eb] originally just didn't have any extra [F] lyrics,
so he was just doing doot-doots, trying to come up with the extra words, and they wouldn't come.
And Nile says, no, no, that's really cool, just do the doot [Bb]-doots.
And sure enough, [F] it became a signature [C]
part, [G] and it's played [Bb] often.
I always [F] thought this song should be in a car commercial.
[C] A couple of times it's popped up, [G] but it hasn't happened yet.
Still hoping.
[Bb]
[F] The video, [C] great time.
We did [G] one camera handheld [Bb]
with [F] Robert [C]
[G] Fresco.
And we just went one camera down, [Cm] the TTC [Gm] had a permit, and we just kept going.
We didn't have a script.
The easiest video we ever did, [Dm] our most effective, I think, at least our fans think so.
[Gm] But a little story people don't know is, if you know [Bb] back in the day,
Gorda and I, besides [F] being performance partners, were actually a couple.
And when we were [Bb] doing the video, people say it looks [F] so emotional, and you guys look so [C] involved [G] in it.
And it was because Gorda and I had [Bb] only just broken up like a week before,
[F] and here we are having to do the video, but [C] we're going to keep the band going anyway.
We're going to [G] figure it out.
So [Bb] it's doot-doot-do, romantic traffic.
[F] Life goes on.
So, [C] yeah, great times.
[G] And this, [Bb] Ontario Place at the Forum [F] with the audience singing back to us.
[C] Because even today, we [G] will stop and let the audience [Bb] do it.
It's the best [F] part of everything.
Listening to the [C] audience come back to us.
[G] Awesome.
[Bb] [F] Rolling into [C] traffic.
[G] Yeah.
[E] [Gbm]
[G] [C] [Em]
[Abm] [E] [A]
[G] [C] [G]
[B] [A]
[G] [N]
