[E]
It had to be done.
There's just too much open road for Charlie and I.
[A]
Music
[C] was just [E] like wild horses [G] breaking out of a [A] corral.
The music was waiting to get out.
What's [D] changed since the first album, we're that [G] much [A] further into our connection and [Em] our friendship.
[G] And that's had time to solidify [A] in a way that I could have never dreamed.
It's like family.
The friendship, which is [D] really important to play together [G] musically [F] and share our musical
ideas because [Em] they're coming from our [G] hearts, not [A] just from our heads.
This is really [D] soulful [A] music.
[D] [A] [D]
[A]
[Em] It just felt like [D] there was [E] too much [A] left to be said still between the two of us.
[N]
It's nice to be able to work with somebody who understands what you want to say and we
can do it [B] together.
[Am] [B] [N] Sometimes I make [B] choices, [Am] [B] sometimes they make me.
[A] [B] Lonesome distance between [A] here [Bm] and where you think I should be.
[A] [E] [B] It's a natural place for my musical and [E] creative instinct.
I feel as much or [G] more at home playing with Charlie than anyone I've ever played with
in my life.
[N] The blues I write is born to be played with Charlie.
[F#] [F#m] Tonight the [E] [Am] bottle,
[B] the bottle wins again.
[Bm]
Blues is always going to be here because it's [G]
about life and about [B] people.
When blues is doing what it's supposed to [A] do, [Bm] it's a mirror, [F#] not only to yourself, [Bm] but
to the culture and times you're living.
I say it's your comforter when you're down [F#m] and it's your good buddy [A] when you're up.
It's [Bm] always there [F#] for you.
Blues music is [D] food for the heart and [B] soul.
[Bm]
[E] [Bm] He's already the greatest living harmonica player [B] and he's just getting better.
So [D] I get to [F#m] witness [E] his growth and it's inspiring [F#m] to me [D] because there comes a time [B] when you
go, okay, where do I go from here?
And Charlie's [A] proof that you can [B] evolve as a musician throughout your entire life [A] without
having [B] to press rewind.
[A] [B] [Em] I've always shied away from [G#] saying music is autobiographical because then it [N] gives out
too much, but how [C] can it not be?
These days I [A#] speak in [C] whispers, travel [F] only [C] to and from.
Come close, [Gm] you'll see the [C] red of a [F] well [C]-bidden tongue.
[F] [C]
[F] [Cm] This album is personal on many levels.
[C] I mean, I had to deal with [F] the murder of my [E] mother and Ben wrote a verse about that.
And it feels good to me to be able to address that.
I don't want to like tamp it down like it never happened.
[N] I want to be able to talk about it and put the sunshine on it so it doesn't fester in
the back of [C] my mind.
Father left us [F] down here [Fm] all [C] alone.
[A#] [C] My poor mother [F] is under a [C] stone.
With a naked heart [Cm] and [F] trembling [C] hands.
[A#] Is there [A] no mercy [C] in this land?
[Cm] [C]
The whole band [F] has this rapport that is [C] obvious when you hear the music.
What is it about our connection and how [F] it's grown in our friendship?
[C] I think you can only hear that by pressing [D#] play.
I think this album has a lot of [F]
depth, [C] a lot of feeling, [A#] and it can [Am] be fun at the same [C] time.
I think everybody will find something in it that means something to them and it'll resonate
[A#] with their hearts like [C] it resonates with us.
