when [F] the relationship was coming to a close

it really was, which is that we

with who we [Gb] were on our own, and [D] we needed to

before kind of going all in with someone

I got to thinking and I [Cm] realized that
there's so many [G] situations in which that's sort of a cop out
and people [C] get too close to each other
and [G] an easy way
out is just to kind of say
[D] you know actually I need to figure out how to [A] like stand on my own
two feet and figure out who I am, because you're getting
too, it's like a [Dbm] fear mechanism sort of
[E] so I wrote the song sort of
from the perspective of someone kind of [Bb] answering that back
and saying, [B]

and I also need to figure out things too
I'm not done growing either, but I don't understand
why we can't just stay next to each other
and stay together and grow at the same time
and give each other space to grow
and find who we are [Bb] instead of leaving
each other's lives, and I hope for many of you
you [F] find that you're in that relationship or that marriage
or whatever [Dbm] that is now, and you're with that [D] person
where you feel like they give you room to be who you are
and find who you are [A] while still being with you
and growing with you, [B] and maybe
for some of you, you [D] had to end a relationship
for that reason the way that I did
