[N] I take [Eb] after both of my parents musically a whole lot.
My father is an [G] amazing [Eb] performer, and not only is he [Bb] amazing at it,
he's amazing at it because he's been on the road for 37 years,
pretty much six months [Ebm] out of the year.
He [Gb] never stops doing it.
So in terms of [F] my performance, [Eb] I really do model myself after him.
Not just [F] musically either, he's a hell of a [Db] showman.
It comes with conversation, [D] and it comes with [Eb] [Ab] seduction,
and it comes with everything, like I do.
[Db] He's [Ab] my male archetype, and that goes for musically and everything [Eb] else.
[Ab] My mom, I've almost never [Db] seen her [D] perform.
[Ab] She's newer, but at this [Db] point I'm finally less of a [Ab] rookie to performing than she [D] is,
because she's so reluctant [Db] to get on stage.
[D] [Ab] She is a deeply, [D] deeply [Db] magical human being.
I've never seen anybody like it.
It's the kind of thing [Eb] that you can't [D] copy.
[Eb] So [Gb] I [Eb] can't take after [Ebm] her so [G] much like that,
but in terms [Gb] of her songwriting, in terms of both of [Eb] my folks' songwritings,
I would have said that my father is very [G] withholding and private [Ab] and secretive
about the way he writes [Ebm] songs and what they're about and everything like that.
[G] Even when I was a kid, he would go away for a couple of [D] weeks at a time,
a month at a [Ab] time, and he would write songs, come back with them finished.
And my mom would wake you up on the night of a test from school [G] and be like,
you've got to get up and listen to [Fm] this song that I just wrote about your stepfather.
You've got to get up and come here and [Eb] do it.
[Fm]
So her actual [Ab] method, and as a songstress and a craftsman, craftsperson, craftswoman,
[Eb] she's one of the most incredible, admirable people I've ever seen.
So when it comes to me writing my own [Db] songs, [Ab] she's always the best editor I have.
She's the one [Eb] who stopped me before I even come to the end of the first time I've played a song that I just wrote
and say, I don't believe that, [Db] or that's a cliché,
or this is something, you need [Eb] to have something more pictorial or editorial
or one way [D] more interesting than another.
[G] So it's impossible for me to decide who [Bbm] I take after more, both of them,
with a tremendous amount of pride.
My father is an [G] amazing [Eb] performer, and not only is he [Bb] amazing at it,
he's amazing at it because he's been on the road for 37 years,
