Start Jamming...
I'm going to show you the Benson lick from hell.
This is played on the 10th fret and typically against a minor 7th chord it would be D minor.
And the lick goes something like this.
[G] [E]
[F]
[G] [E]
[D] Okay here's the lick slowly.
It's the same pattern played on all the sets of strings.
It starts out kind of like the Benson [Dm] slide lick.
Just slides up to the 5th of the chord and then hits the 3rd of the chord and then from
there it goes into this pattern where we're going to come chromatically down from each
note progressing down the sets of strings.
[D] [E]
So that's the pattern and we're going to take that pattern [A] and move it to each of the sets of strings.
[B]
[A] [G]
[D#] [D]
And note that we don't really adjust things to be [B]
symmetrical or to have the same intervals.
It's pretty much just the same finger shapes.
The only adjustment we do make is we do make it chromatic by sliding the finger down from
here [Dm] [D] [E]
we come down a fret.
[D] [C] But you see [A] [C]
that each set is chromatic.
[A]
It's just a 1 and 3 finger skipping a string.
[B] Again moving down [A] [G] chromatic, skipping a [Cm] string.
This time the shape's an octave.
[F#] Coming down again [E] [D] chromatic to the octave.
So [Dm] starting here.
The pattern fingering wise is a little different because of the minor [B] 3rd, or excuse me, because
of the 3rd between these two strings.
You would think I'd know the guitar after all these years.
So here we don't play [G] it quite the same way because [F] of the interval between these two strings.
[D]
[E] But every other time [B]
we jog the first finger [D] down.
[Dm] [B]
[D]
[Dm] [Em] [D]
